Speaking of spinning out/ice rink/very scary..
Ive had issues with my 350z losing traction and slidding out when Im not expecting it. I bought a set of nitto 555 mounted on 19" rims and once the tread started getting low (not tooo low) the rear end would give out much easier than normal. I have heard rumors of the 555's sidewalls getting soft with age/use. Not sure how valid that is and how much it would apply to my rear end giving out but I DO know the limits of my car and do push them on a usual basis and it does seem that my limit decreased by a noticable difference. Anyone else experience the same?

And my standard procedure when i get into my car is VDC off. I dont even think about it.

This. I can't tell you how many times I've broken the rear loose on purpose (always at low speed, though) and, even in the rain, this car is wonderfully predictable. I'm completely at a loss for all the crashes we see, except that people never come on here and say "Hey, I didn't crash today."

Either way, after what I've seen with no VDC altogether, it's pretty hard not to blame driver error if one of these babies goes ***-first. That or I have a magic Z which is actually predictable.

Maybe VDC makes the car even less predictable because you are out of contact with some of the car's operation. That's one thing I can't speak for, except that the VDC in my 05 Frontier is wonderful at keeping the back end in line.

If you're being serious, I'll go ahead and tell you that your tires are horrible. Just do a search, I'm not talking out of my ***.

EDIT: I'll take it one step further and recommend Michelin PS2s or anything by Bridgestone that's ultra-high performance. A lot of people like those tires.

Tough crowd. Reminds me of myself when I'm watching an Indycar or ALMS race. Driver looses it. "You idiot! Hand over your drive to someone who knows what they're doing!"

Only later do I find out that something broke on the car.

Could be that something broke or malfunctioned here too. Maybe not the VDC turning off. But how about a stuck caliper? Just a thought.

Actually VDC uses the brakes and throttle. If your fluid is low , to the point you get a brake light (letting you know you need fluid) VDC will turn off. It is possible he was mid corner with low brake fluid it was low enough to cause VDC to turn off.

kegsbane.. I know the nitto 555's arent anything special at all. If I had the money id obviously purchase something better. Thanks for the recommendation.! My comment was directed towards the performance decline over time of the 555's. I am fully aware of the limit of my car and how hard I can push it without losing traction or getting into a sticky situation. But when I am all of a sudden finding myself losing traction in situations where im not even worried about losing it I start to question my tires. I have been thru many tires in my life time, some great tires, some not so great, and I have never had this problem. Didnt expect these to be any different but from my experience they are pretty damn crappy and would advise people to be watch themselves during the last 25% tread. BLAh

Yea, i dont have VDC and never had a problem yet... with bald rears. I sometimes have the rear end glide a tad over during a hard turn but never lose control, and this is my first rwd car. Practice? heh

do u have a right size of tires? coz i used to have a wrong size tires and it happend to me and now i got no problem with it when i got a right size tires
