Default Why does everyone think the Z is heavy?

I put mine on the scale...3252 lbs.

Just some other misc. cars on the road...

subaru WRX...3140 lbs
Supra TT...3550 lbs
Mitsu Evo 9...3264 lbs
Mitsu Evo 10...3420 lbs
Golf GTI...3352 lbs
Mitsu 3000GT vr-4...3870 lbs
Nissan 300zx TT...3600 lbs
Ford 500...3800 lbs.

Seems like the Z is actually on the lighter side. All my buddies have DSMs and evos. Most of them like my Z and have driven it but seem to not like the fact that it is a heavy car. Most of the people I talk to say this same thing...that the Z is a heavy car. Why is this? The Z actually looks to very close to the same weight of the evo if not LIGHTER than it.

Could it be because of the heavy steering it "feels" like you are driving a heavy car? My talon is actually quite a bit heavier than the Z bit it "feels" lighter too. Any insight???

exactly. My eclipse gst was the same weight but feels so much lighter. Z feels heavier and more planted.

Well, now I can tell my friends about how much their evo's are pigs They were obviously weight concerned when developing the Z. Aluminum roof and suspension, carbon driveshaft, etc. It's nice to be underrated though.

Mine is an 03 Touring full interior with a Turbonetics single. Only good for 60mph rolls tho.

i think due to our cars only being able to seat 2 is what makes it seem ours is heavier than to others. Functionality

My other car weighs 4,168 lbs so I'm not complaining about my Z! My other car is a Holden Caprice though, same size as a 7-series BMW.

hard to compare scale weight of your Z with spec weight of others...Z full of fuel with driver is 3500 lb car...in most racing circles that's really heavy for a 2 seater...i would say a Z is average...not heavy or light...anyone got a scale weight of a track ready Z...with cage?

where is all the weight in our Zs? I think they are heavy too considering its:

small 2 seater
hard top
Aluminum suspension.

Heck the cross member in a Z weights nothing, even with all the arms on it. 3300lbs seems too heavy for this car, i think 2900-3000 is more reasonable

so wheres all the weight at?

People says the Z is heavy because it looks wider/bigger than other cars and people who owns other brands hates on us - especially s2ks because they're a direct competitor.

Mine weighed 3180 at Moroso. That's still kind of heavy for a two seat sports car.

S2k is about 2800lbs and that's a vert. The Z roadster weighs, what? 3600-3700lbs??

The RX-8 seats four and comes in at about 3000lbs.

Don't get me wrong the Z handles its weight very well, but it's got some weight to handle.

The Z handles its weight extremely well. My Supra always felt its weight. It did handle great, but deff no comparison in feeling.
I actually feel strange saying this, but I almost think my Z is more flickable then my gutted Type R when I had it and all raced out.
A well balanced RWD car though can do that

Well for one an EVO and an STI is an AWD car coming in around the same weight as a RWD car. SO yes it is heavy. My A4 AWD car feels lighter then the Z even though the Z has like 100 more HP. The power to weight ratio of the Z is what 11:1, for every 11lbs = 1hp. I think thats how you should really base these cars. And then go by:
Vette
Viper
Supra
Lexus whatever
500

because it is. Its more of a GT car, it will never be as nimble as a MR2, RX7, Solstice, Sky, Miata, Elises, S2k, Z4, Z3. Your hand picked list are all pigs, but the AWD cars get a pass. All cars have pluses and minuses, I would never auto-x this car, but its great in other aspects.

If anything the weight is just right because it feels both planted and flickable. But its annoying that it has put on weight since 2003.
