50 hp Nismo upgrade
Here's an article from the British press that spends a little bit of space opn the 350Z (quite positive) and a lot of space whining about how a CHP officer wasn't as polite as the bobbies back 'ome. (Boo hoo.)
http://motoring.telegraph.co.uk/moto...2/emfnis03.xml
But the interesting thing is this quote:
There are some major errors, like the base price being quoted as $21,269 instead of $26,269 so I wouldn't take this as gospel.
(Sorry if this is old news; my main computer died and I missed a lot of messages over the last few days.)

But the interesting thing is this quote:
the only optional extras across the whole range will be side airbags and a navigation system, although a 50bhp aftermarket performance upgrade will also be available from Nismo, the company's motorsport arm.

50 HP? Must have missed that option when I ordered.
Wonder what that could be? Too much for Intake/ECU/Exhaust but a little underpowered for FI. Maybe conservative FI for warrenty purposes?
Probably B.S.

A little of topic but I know that BHP is from a "brake dynometer", but does anyone remember what DIN represents? I just cant remember and I am going to lose sleep trying to think of it! Aren't the numbers that Nisaan give out based on BHP results? I was under the assumption that BHP wasn't necessarily at the wheels. Which as we all know the company will only put out the numbers from the crank!

I have heard a great deal of things from Tak, my guy in Japan that works at Nissan and he told me that the Nismo parts that will be made available over the next year will have the ability to push the car up into the 400+hp area.
Keep in mind... the Nismo race car that Nissan has (see attached image) uses the EXACT same engine as the 350Z but it's tweaked and it pushes 450 hp!.
I have NO CLUE what Nismo parts Takahasi is talking about, but believe me, I already emailed him asking. Our good buddy Bill (Fairlady Z in Japan) is sending me a Nismo catalog and I'll be scanning and adding it asap. Of course, if any of you are fluent in Japanese, please PM me because we're gonna need your help.
I am sure Bill is.... maybe I should have asked him? lol

LOL LOL LOL ...but
I am sending Jay everything that has been published to date in Japan over the last 5 days... and Jay -- you will receive it on Friday your time.
There is nothing exciting.. just some different pix -- and the only thing that the articles state are ... NISMO is working on HP upgrades... in addition to the parts and body mods that everybody has seen.
The articles continue to state that... the aero kits are for real performance..... not just fluff... and the other options are for performance. Example.. oil cooler -- great if you track... but not needed for just regular or high weekend driving.
More as anything comes in..
My Japanese is not bad... but I have my wife as sure backup source for any translation.... she hates translating car stuff -- so it is a real give-and- take

Your desert car would benefit from the same upgrade.

Hey I just noticed that the grill on the race car is significantly blocked compared to the street car (see a couple of posts higher). While one can assume that the race car uses different dynamics for breathing, it does lend credence to mounting the license plate in the grill area without doing much harm.

robf,
Look at this pic...https://my350z.com/photos/caravan/caravan-009.html
Look where the intake is...I think as long as you make sure air is getting in here, you won't affect the engine's breathing. This is interesting...I wonder if you put some air ducts into the front grill if you will get some ram-air effect?
If you block air to the front grill with a plate, I would think it would have more effect on the radiator temp. I wouldn't think this is at all a problem on the street. On the track, you want as much cooling as possible, so I'd get rid of the plate. I'm sure there is some internal ducting of air on that race car...the engineers have it flowing where they need it.
