Default I Guess I'm Retarded...

But I was all set on getting the Track Model, until I read a thread in the Audio section and looked on the Nissan site myself... the Touring Model is the only one that has the option for leather seats and the upgraded sound system... WTF? Why wouldn't the top model have those options too? Now I'm confused/stuck... which model is actually better (fully loaded) the Track or the Touring???

They are trying to keep the weight off of the track model, hence the Rays wheels which are lighter than stock.

The track model is sold that way because it's supposed to be targetted at the "serious" racers. Leather is heavier than cloth, and a racer usually doesn't want all the extra gadgets in their to mess with when he/she's tracking the car. Now I'm NOT saying you can't race a Touring model--I'm just saying that Nissan was aiming for that kind of ideal with the track model--make it as light as possible, give it the light wheels, the big brakes, and strip it of most of the comfort extras the racers wouldn't want anyway.

Like the Cobra R doesn't come with A/C or a radio.

There is no top model in my opinion. Just different options! If you are going to track the car often, do with the Track which will give you the aero package (down force), Brembo brakes (much less fade), and the Rays wheels (much lighter rims). If you are not going to track the car or plan on moding it anyways, go with Performance. I chose Touring for the amenities and comfort (what comfort??). I am happy with my choice.

Good luck, and you can't go wrong either way cause you are getting a Z....

Damn... this is causing me a lot of strife... can more people please elaborate on their thoughts... is it possible to get the track with all the options of the touring? I'm not a racer... I live in Chicago, and plan on using the Z to go to the Grocery store...lol... but I like to get to the store FAST when I'm hungry!!!

Seriously though... I want luxury and sport... what are the other differences between the two? Can the track get all the luxury items of the touring except the stereo and leahter? Maybe a better way to phrase it is...If I get the track, how much would it cost/how hard would it be to replace the stereo and get leather seats?

Any thoughts/suggestions would/will be GREATLY appreciated.

Get a track w/ aftermarket leather and stereo. The stereo in the touring is crap anyway. They all have the same engine and suspension so you can still get your groceries quick regardless of the model. Try going to www.nissanusa.com and get familiar w/ the specs, good luck if you do purchase one. I am very happy with mine.

If you want luxury and performance, get a G35C, not a Track model Z.

That sounds like the best idea... how much should the leather run me... or maybe I can just talk Nissan into giving me leather for the hell of it...

Stereos: What's the best for the Z?

BTW - thanks for the advice... I think that's what I wanted to hear...

It's horrible.

You'd be much better off getting a Track model and adding on aftermarket leather and an aftermarket stereo.

If u want the options of the touring... why not just go for touring? Do u really need fade resistant brakes when ur gonna hit up the supermarket? Basically we all have the same car, just diff options... u seem like the type of person who would much enjoy the touring more than the track. no offense but it just sounds like u want to get the track just cuz it's the "track" model or the most expensive one. And I think other ppl on the forums have added on the leather seats if u don't want to do aftermarket but it's just from memory and I don't really recall too well. Just my $.02

Well, you're mostly right... I want the track model because it's "the track" model...lol... but also because this is going to be my first new car, and I want to do it right... Also, the Track seems to have the better rims and it comes with the aerodynamics package included... the stereo and seats I'm predicting won't be too much to add... I'm pretty sure I can get the leather seats factory as I think I read that on one of the forums as well... and from what I hear about the Bose system, I think I'm better off getting something aftermarket anyway. From what I can tell, the seats and stereo are the only two things you can't get on the track that you can get on the touring... and the price isn't really "that" much different between the two...

This is not intended as a flame, but why is buying the most expensive model that doesn't have the options you want, doing it right? Doing it right (especially with a new car where you have a choice) is getting the options you want regardless of cost. If you arn't going to be on a track or doing extensive canyon running where brake fade is an issue, why not get the touring? The stopping distance is the same, so saftey isn't an issue. Its got the leather you want, and even has heated seats (which in Chicago you would definatly want). Its cheaper than the track, so you would have more $$$s to put towards a replacement for the Blose stereo. If memory serves, Chicago streets aren't the best, so are you sure you want super light weight track rims to drive around in? Don't get caught up in the consumer hype that you have to spend as much as possible to "do things right." Doing it right is spending the least amout required to get what you want.

I agree with Alang and don't forget you'd be getting the power driver's/passenger's seat, and the heated mirrors with the touring as well. Sorry, not trying to make your decision any harder.

You're looking way too hard at this. Hell, the Base model is just about as fast as the Track model. I've read all I can stand. Just buy the Touring and upgrade the stereo. Trust me - I know you too well! jk

Just a suggestion:

Get the Touring 6 speed and add the aero option. I believe the only things you'll be lacking are the brembo brakes and lighter rims.

And yes.....the Bose sucks right now but there are claims in other areas of this forum that they are still trying to fix it.

Thanks guys... I guess that is where I should stand right now... Touring Model... I can always replace the rims, right? And it doesn't sound like I'll need the breaks... Oi, this has been a ruff day... totally changed what I thought I was going to get!!!
