They claim it's been confirmed by the Director of Product Communications (Sauce).

As in the past this is part of the cycle, the bean counters in Japan present data that affects the Nissan presence in the motor car world. Remeber in the early 80's we saw the twin turbos GTP (Gran Touting Prototypes) cars driven by Geoff Brabham dominate for most of the 80's as a factory sponsored team. In the end NiSSan sees no more increase in car & truck sales and makes the decision to put the racing/advertising budget in Europe. It happens.

Being truthful we really don't see a huge NiSSan presence in US racing anyway, thank God for privateers in the racing world.

Just a cycle, but with the new presence of the GT-R in America I expect NiSSan will offer support in many forms, wind tunnel data, parts, R&D, funding and in general technical support for possibly 1 or 2 privately sponsored teams. Realize if you will the car in my avatar is where the NISMO funding is in place, defending champions in the Japaneese Super Car formula 3 years running.

This is not Japan......NiSSan's home

If so NISMO parts are gonna get ALOT rarer (sp). Time to start hoarding (sp) them all.

Well that would suck if it is true. I would think this would affect the sale of the GTRs. I mean, if I owned a GTR and wanted to put some aftermarket stuff in it, NISMO would be the first on my list.

The article was inferring to the hint that NiSSan was going to pull the plug on US motorsports, not NISMO.

Nismo is about racing performance and will continue to race & develop new parts technologies for the Z in the future. Why would they (NISMO) choose to quit making money in the American spocom market???

Nissan Sport Magazine is following this story. You can read our brief regarding Nissan Motorsports future on our website: nissansportmag.com.

Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind is that the entire story on the future of Nissan Motorsports in 2008 and beyond is still evolving. Nissan Sport Magazine just completed editing the winter '08 issue material before this story broke. We remain committed to separating fact from fiction and will work to gain the full story on this critical topic.
