Performance or Track?
I am still a few months away from being able to purchase a Z, probably Oct/Nov, but would like to know from experienced drivers what they think is different between these two cars.
As I option them, there is about a $2500 disparity but you get the lightweight rims and the Brembos. I am personally interested in having the best handling car out of the box and I want the car to look stock.

I got the performance, because it's the one that fits me better.
I won't be going to the track or anything like that, so i didn't want to pay extra for a little lighter wheels and Brembo brakes.

I got touring, but consider it performance anyway. I didnt get track for one because track wheels, while lightwieght and all, do not do it for me astheticly. I also wanted wider rims, 8.5 and 9.5, and possible even 9.5 and 10.5 later after more modifications. but Id rather sell off 18" performance rims, than track rims.
as for brakes, Id prefer to get a big brake kit aftermarket just because tests have shown improvement even over the track model.
but thats me, if you want performance out of the box, and stock look, then track is for you, me, I prefer the look of my aftermarket rims over any stock rim. and brakes, well, any big brake kit is gonna look the same as brembos, different color rotor, but no ones gonna look at any of these cars and think, that aint stock. well they might, but theyll think that about brembos anyway.
2500$ difference, a big brake kit is 3000(might haggle but thats a safe number) and track rims are worth 2000 at best, new rims and tires are 3000 give or take. so thats 4000$ to make a performance into a track. brakes will be better, rims will be custom. but without going to a track and racing, all you'll gain is the look of the rims.
if your not going to the track, on the streets, brakes are all equal, within 2 feet of each other from 60-0. so whats the point? and light weight rims will only help you at the limit of what the car can do, which is unlikely youll ever even get near unless you go to the track.

It seems to me the question is: are you going to drive enough "at the edge" (or want to feel/say you drive at the edge) to warrent the extra bucks?
If "yes", get the Track.
If "no", buy the Perfeormance.

I doubt I will do any open track though I never say never and I have done autoX and that is definetly a possibility.
The lightweight rims reduce unsprung weight and should enhance handling, I was curious to know if anybody has actually driven the two and noticed any difference. The same would hold true for those wo have AM rims that are lighter than the stock rims.
I hate to admit it but I do drive like a nut and I will push the car hard.

Spydr hit it right on the money- I got the track because of the brembo's and Ray's. I'm keeping my Z stock, so getting the track edition was important for me..... (if I did get performance I would spend ALOT more money upgrading then the 2500 difference).

Well i am having this same proble too. I probably will get the track because i really like the wheels, the only wheels that are comprable in my mind are volk te37 but i really like the stock track wheels better, and the brembos, are awsome and with either nismo pads, or mabye another aftermarket pad they will signifigantly outpreform the regular breaks bot only on the track but on the street as well.
Just my .02

I was in the same boat as you when I first started looking at the Z. After seeing the Track model in person, I was impressed with the 18's and Brembos. If I would have purchased a Performance model, I know I would have looked into new rims for sure. I would say if you are looking to give your Z a more personal touch, go with the performance model. Then, you can add the brakes and/or wheels. If you like the track model, I think it's a reasonable price for the brake/wheel combo you get.
Either way, you are going to love the car!!

a 2 wheel kit for 3000 will perform better than track... 4wheel is just even more performance, yes it cost more, but the tires and brakes will also work better.
track is better than stock, but its also not the best performing parts that you can buy; aftermarket is still better.

I got the Track Model because I will not settle for second best.
I also don't want to mess with upgrading brakes with aftermarket. I want to keep as much OEM as I can.
Also, the wheels on the Track are about the sharpest I've seen, and match the aesthetic theme of the car.
