Are AUTO Z's considered "Fast"?

Either one is good, just depending on what you want to do with it. I prefer a manual just because I enjoy driving them and feel like I have a little more control with the man. trans. However, sometimes I wish I had an automatic just because the manual can get ridiculous in stop and go traffic.

I'm not bias anymore since i own an automatic Z roadster for my daily driver and though it's quick for an automatic it doesn't not shift fast at all period. SMG system is a much more better and advance system.

Imo, shifting in .200 of a second is damn fast. The SMGIII systems shift 0.80, and the Audi DSG does it in .030. Previous SMG systems shifted .150, iirc, as did Ferrari's systems. For what it is, the JATCO 5AT is a fantastic transmission all around. It gets a good amount of praise, especially from Edmunds who called it "one of the best transmissions we've ever driven."
Edit: For reference, it takes you .300 of a second to blink.

If in tiptronic, ok, I'm with ya
In automatic mode my 07 shifts extremely fast, no hesitation at all.

I drive all the time with the tip and doesnt come close to auto quickness.

Are you talking about downshifting? Or upshifting? In auto it'll hang on to a gear longer, and intentionally slip a little before each upshift, like most other ATs will. None of that happens in manual mode.

Talking upshifting, I clearly have a lag between gears(in tip), especially when in the upper rpms. downshifting the rev comes into effect. Auto mode, under heavy acceleration, computer shifts it efficiently.

I'm not arguing with you. I just find it weird. In auto mode my shifting feels weird. It shifts the same in auto and manual when I'm flooring it to redline. But for everyday spirited driving it's just annoying.
And yes, I know 4th to 5th is smooth - 4th and 5th gears on this transmission engage differently than 1-3. There's a really great post on how the AT works, if I find it, I'll link you. Anyways, I was talking about shifting into 2nd, and into 3rd. That pop is a very good thing. My brother's M6 does it all the time when the transmission is set to the fastest setting. Satisfying sound.

My 5AT is very smooth during shifting. I'm not sure what you guys mean by 'pop' but are you sure you just aren't hitting the rev limiter just as you shift? I've done this a few times and it jerks a bit when going into 2nd during hard acceleration.
Can a few of you guys with the 5AT with and without mods post some video of your full acceleration? I wish to compate against mine... For some reason my car feels slower, I think my 0-60 times are more in the high 6's. I can't think that would be caused by the extra weight in the Roadster, or maybe it is...
