a real simple answer to whether you want an 5AT or a 6MT Z is this. just do a search on the manual transmission issues and see how many problems it has. then answer this question, would you like to drive your Z or keep it in the shop for tranny problems. so performance = no much difference and reliability has to go to the 5AT

Does anyone know if AT is in fact limited at 6,600 rpm or something like that with the HR motor ('07 and '08)? Is that an internal computer limitter or your meter shows 6,600 as the rev limit?

My rev-limiter (I think don't really remember, just woke up lol) I am pretty sure it doesn't red line at 6,600 rpms.

All HRs, regardless of transmission rev to 7700. All 287 motors (03-06) rev to 6600.

Power wise AT and MT, you should not worry about it. Z has enough power already for track use no matter what transmission is. I would say it's more toward yourself how far you want to push yourself be a good driver!

a friend of mine but an AT when I had my 6speed and with a bunch of bolts ons went 13.4 which i thought was pretty good. his was always a little faster than mine till i went FI..lol

just drove an 07 enth coupe auto with the tip. Rev matching on down shifts ftw. It's fast, but too much computer envolvement. my 05 enth manual feels more challenging and rewarding. Also the sound of the exhaust through the gears is better with my manual

I am not surprised some people buy auto, it's still a fun ride. I'll stick my with shifter thingy and that third pedal.

Edit: and that tcs light in the dash.

Screw the 3rd pedal! The Nissan supercar GTR doesnt have one! Anyway on the dragstrip last yr with just spacer and exhaust. I ran a 14.0 @101.5 with a crappy 2.3 60ft. With better traction 13.6 is possible. So my 350z auto is quick.

Personally I thought your Video was impressive great shiftimg and lanuches, great reads on the green lights. You have to wonder if the STi driver was having trouble, he ALSO lost to you but to a 94?-89 v8 Mustang!! Just kidding, I know that the GT or Cobra are fast!!

The STi usually beats a non Mod Z on the streets, with equal drivers.

OP you are good either way you go with a Z auto or 6MT, its all good. The 6 speed you are more connected to the car. The AT will hold at a stop on a hill just by holding the brake. Release and Smooth take off.

I don't know I test drove a 6MT Z and I own my AT5 Z, and they both felt about the same speed... The manual is more fun though and you do have more control, which is good if you know how to use it.

I haven't got a chance to try my AT5 on a track yet, but I will be autocrossing next month so we'll see how it goes. I honestly don't suspect there will be any problems. It downshifts quite well for a non-DSG box, so only experience will tell on that one.

I wish I could of found a Z Roadster in manual but just couldn't... Kinda sucks because I love manual and once I get used to it, I am quite good with it. But the 5AT in the Z isn't bad and it works well.

So really I think its simple... if you know how to drive a manual, and you like it, get it! Only reasons not to get a MT I can think of would be, you dont know how to drive stick (I recommend you learn, its fun), you share the car with someone who cant drive MT and/or your scared they will have problems with the clutch and possibly kill it, you do tons of daily driving and your left leg is a *****, or you CANT find a MT Z (after looking at least 6 months).

So if you want a MT, I'd wait and try to find it... I waited for a ZR for a year and none came up in MT so I gave up and got the AT5. If a MT ZR appears one of these days I will make an effort at trading though, or selling mine and getting the MT because thats what I like.

I have nothing against an auto Z, but please don't compare your auto transmission to a GTR's... they are nowhere near the same.

I'd own another auto in a street sports car if it was a Ferrari.

My next car I hope. Other than that, a auto is good for towing or rock crawling or built in drag car. In a sports car on a road course or auto cross..... give me a manual tranny car.

In the old days a 13 sec car was fast. Nowadays, you have to have a low 12 or 11 sec car to consider your car fast imo.
