Default So... My car got stolen Yesterday...

It's been a pleasure exchanging thoughts with you guys in this, and other, forums, but thanks to two F*****ing S.O.B.s Who walked up to me while I was leaving my home, pointed a gun at me and demanded my car keys I'm am no longer a proud owner of a beutiful 350Z.

Fortunately all they (the aforementionded damned S.O.B.s) took was personal material things and nothing else. I had little time to even panic, as they first intended to take me with them, to my good luck this guys where just some stupid kids with a gun who felt like driving off with my car, wallet, cell phone, pocket pc and other miscellaneus things I had in my car (I just remembered my gym bag with my boxing gloves was in there too ) and so after they told me they were going to shoot me and all that "macho with a gun in my hand" things any damned, stupid, MO FO would feel powerful enough to say, I told them they could take everything including my car but there was no way in hell I was going with them, the guy with the gun finally got in the car and they drove away with my baby .

I'll shure miss my car but eventhough the police and insurance company are sopposed to be looking for it, I wouldn't want it back since all I can thinks is it has been tainted by these two monkeys that took it away. I would expect the insurance company to give me a check in about 30 days and after thoughtful and serious concideration I have decided on buying a different car this time around, one a little less attention grabbing.
No doubt this was an awsome car and althoug I only has it for like 3 months, 2800 miles, I enjoyed every minute I drove it and every time I looked at it from the outside and certanly every comment I exchanged with you guys at the forum.

Thanks to all

The car I'm concidering is a 147 GTA Alfa Romeo, Its a small Italian hatch back, about the size of a VW golf, but with stunning design IMO, this particular model has a sweet V six cylinder engine, 3.2 litters, 24V, 250hp, 6 speed manual trans, 17" wheels, body kit, I'm thinking it should cost me about US$37,000 wich is about as much as I'll get from the insurance company. any way here are some pics of it, let me know what you guys think.

Some people in other forums have been telling me that the alfa is not so low profile wich I know. The thing is I'm scared right now and wouldn't want this to happen again witn a new Z and believe me the Z is much more "in your face" than the alfa, specially in Le Mans Siunset. The alfa is a two volume sport hatchback that happens to be beutiful in design and this GTA version has a great engine too. Being scared does not imply I'm going to buy a POS car, or maybe it does??? I'm still debating with my self...

Thanks again
Ricardo

think about it....the chance of getting jacked again is so small.

Do you think the guys who jacked you would jack a guy with a porsche? If so....were you said person...would you get an alfa instead of a porsche?

btw

I have no idea how it is in Mexico city - Do nice cars stick out? Do most ppl w/ nice cars have $$$$$$ Basically, is there a socioeconomic factor at work here? i.e. no matter what kind of car you have (as long as its a nice one) do you attract the attention of certain undesirables?

qirex :

Yes, it is very different that in the US, here, generally if you own an expensive car it means you have money, maybe not a millioner but enough money to buy the car cash at lest. The thing is cars are very expensive here and more so compared to minumum wages, for example my car cost me about US$45,000 out the door. I paid this cash, why?, becouse geting a lease or financing a car like this would be suicide, intrest rates are at least 15%, wich means that for a car like mine a 4 year pan would mean about us$1,500 a month, and you know Zs are not really that expensive compared to some BMW, Audis and the likes. So if the "undisireables" as you call them see you in a car like mine they figure you at least have some money, they don't really care if its millions, just what they can get is good for them.

The least expensive cars here cost about US$8,000 cash, if you finance you are looking at about US$200 a month for 60 months, if you factor in that minimum wage is US$4.00 "A DAY" not an HOUR but "DAILY" that comes out to US$120.00 a month so the great mayority of the population can't even afford, with all the money they make, the cheapes car here.

Now to be honest, most of the people who make minimum wage are hard working people and honest, I think its wise *** kids, like the ones that robed me, that guess its better to buy a gun and go around screwing people over than getting a job and actually work for your money, even if it pays little, but legit.

Regards
Ricardo

I'm sorry about your poor baby. I would die if someone took my baby from me. I think the Alfa stands out just as much if not more than the Z. People (in the US anyway) know what Nissan is but have no idea what Alfa Romero is. Just by the name they thing exotic and think it costs a lot. Its probably not the same there though.

You should move to the U.S. Sure, that can happen here too, or anywhere, but at least cars are cheaper!

Ricardo - have you thought about getting another Z but in a less attention grabbing colour, maybe black?

Mexico City has a VERY high crime rate, it's a dangerous place. Sorry to hear about your ride man. You can't carry a gun in Mexico? I would.

black = less attention grabbing?? I wish that was true here in California.
My friends and I get pulled over PLENTY of times with black cars. Maybe if you keep it dirty like dirt then they won't see it....but when black is clean theres this shiny void that catches every cops eye.

Try silver...so many cars are silver...that amongst a bunch of cars..the color silver is easy to overlook. I just recently sold a silver car and was never pulled over in it. Maybe once ..but that was on campus and my backlight was out.

I'm sure you'd get pulled over by the cops more in black (or red) cos they're traditional 'catch me if you can' sports car colours, but I meant that black would maybe stand out less as far as armed robbers go. The orange Z is *very* distinctive. I expect those guys had seen your car around town for a while before they pounced. Maybe Silverstone or regular silver wouldn't be so appealing to these thugs, but I really don't see why you be considering them when you shop!

My advice would be to just get the car you want. If it happened to me I would think about moving to a different area before I considered changing my car.

insurance companies here in the US are required to provide you with a close replacment, if you ask for it. I dunno how it is in Mexico, but you should ask for it.

Also when you think the insurance company is not giving you what the fair value of the car, you can ask for a replacment and often they will offer you more cash.
