Default Anyone else have problems checking their oil?

I would do a search on this but it looks like the search is still hosed....

So does anybody else have a hard time telling where the oil level is after wrangling that horribly desgined dipstick out of the engine?
It seems like pulling it out the first time gets oil all up and down the shaft and then sticking it back in to get a reading, gets that oil back all over it.

Any tips on getting that thing out with out having to twist it around and what not?

Read your manual, it says wait 10 miutes before checking your oil. Sometimes I can get a decent reading, other times I can't. I don't understand the reason for a dipstick to be so "wrinkled", its my best shot at describing it. Surely another design could be fabricated to work.

10 mins gives a false reading. Wait at least 30mins for the oil to drain down. I know this seams kind of long but if you dont wait long enough, the level reads 3/4 to 1/2 full. Too much oil is bad as little oil.

I know, its just such a pain to wait and wait. 30 minutes is the longest wait I've ever heard of, but I know you're right, its just damned inconvenient, especially on a trip. You have to stop and eat somewhere to wait long enough.

Yeah, I wait...and wait...and wait....
But I don't want to wait too long, because then the oil gets colder and I don't end up with a good reading then either!

You would think at this point they would have some type of way to tell you what your oil level is without haveing to use the dipstick....
