This is why I laugh at people. You have the money for a Z & mods yet you cant buy a beater? Rethink your situation.... You were warned 4 months ago about the weather when you moved out there. If I were your friends/GF/co-workers, I'd never give you a ride.

I hate to sound mean but people like you make me shake my head:

"I'm cool cause I own a Z but can't afford anything else. Yay me!"

Sell it.

And if you CAN afford it, you need to smarten up.

i'm paying for my car, insurance, my apartment, my mom's car payments, and my dad's health insurance

what else you want ?

I NEVER said i can not afford anything else.

Think before you write on 350z forms.

Dont ever laugh at 350z members, look at your self first

I agree!!! ... and understandable!... i got to school, college in OH, my family is away, i have 2 other brothers in a expensive colleges, parents cant manage to pay for everything as i have lots of loans and cant afford buying a beater just cause i dont have my own money... but love the Z .. so there.. some people are in complete different situations~ ... for evertying there is a reason...

I never drove my Z in the snow, but I can't believe it'd be awful with decent snow tires.

We just had a blizzard in Chicago and I drove home next to Mercedes, Lexuses, BMWs and the like - all RWD cars, and with snow tires those people got along ok. You just have to go slow and turn very carefully.

And be careful not to wear down the outer tread of the snow tires too fast. The outer area is very soft and that's the stuff that keeps your traction in snow and on ice, so no burnouts on snow tires when it's dry!

The roads STILL suck and it just stopped snowing now after starting at noon yesterday.

I'm willing to bet that a Z driven carefully and with snow tires will do just as well if not better than my Legacy with its crappy all-seasons. I slide all over the place even with AWD on the crappy stock tires.

+1 buy a older beater subbie for a couple grand..... We're talking 90's tech here. Then you'll be good to go. Use storage ins on the Z to save some money and your set.

Now, if you liked PU's; which it doesn't look like. I'd say buy a classic FORD PU like this for $1500 and drive it in the snow for a while. Cheap, cheap, cheap to run.... well except for gas. Really at 16-17mpg really aint bad.

Or, for $1500:

Plenty of clearance and lots of fun in the snow ;-)

If you have money buy one of these:

They are about the best for the $'s in the snow. You can get '00 for under $10K right now.

If your dead against PU / SUV's then the suburu with AWD is a nice option. It will cost more, not as much ground clearance, and is fugly imo:

'93 for about $3K

Just some options for ya ....

There's a lot of good cars that can be had for very cheap these days as beaters. I roll around in a '96 integra. Runs perfectly, great on gas, and cheap.

What a bunch of sissies! I'm 70 years old and a little cold and snow doesn't stop me and my Z. It even gets washed when it needs it and it will never see a car wash or detail shop as long as I can still fill a bucket. I'm the only one that will wash this car after spending a lot of time with a clay bar, cleaner, polish and wax.

It Snows in St.Louis for 2 days and then melts in 3 or 4.... then its dry for a while and it snows again hehe.

as for your driving problems in the snow....
get a set of Bridgestone Blizzak Tires you will not worry much about driving in the snow.

Winter driving...ice and snow...slipping and sliding...dings and dents. Although your vehicle's ABS and traction control may be working overtime restricting your progress to the traction available from its all-season tires, with months of winter driving still ahead, isn't there a better way?

BLIZZAK Performance winter tires feature high-performance winter tread compounds molded into directional tread designs that provide thousands of biting edges to combine stop and go traction in snow with responsive handling in wet and dry road conditions.

BLIZZAK Studless Ice & Snow winter tires feature a patented MULTICELL compound that contains millions of microscopic pores to help grip ice without the use of studs. BLIZZAK Studless Ice & Snow winter tires have been shown to stop a vehicle traveling at only 30 miles per hour an average of 35 feet shorter on ice than popular all-season radials...a distance of about two car lengths!
