Default What the........

My car is a 2004 Roadster with 35K on the clock. About 1 week after purchasing it I was driving on a 3 lane highway, doing about 45mph, and as I crossed the 50mph mark with the gas pedal pressed, my car started to decelerate, as if the gas flow had been shut off... It kept doing this and would barely go past 55mph until I stopped at a gas station and filled up... The gas tank was very close to E at the time and it still had the gas from the dealer's first fill-up... I would like to know if anyone else here has experienced anything similar????

My thoughts were that maybe the dealer used regular(87 octane) gas or that the car was almost completely out of gas, even though the light was not on that indicates a need for gas. I've been putting in 93 octane gas since and driving it low but have not been able to recreate the problem. Any related input would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

KP

Perhaps the low-fuel light is not working. Take it back to the dealer and have them check it out. I had a civic with the same problem. Replaced under warranty. My last car, a 97 Pathfinder, would jerk and stuff when I'm running REALLY low on fuel.

Yep, since I filled the tank up the problem has not returned.. So far I have only emptied the tank and filled it twice since then though.... So I'm kinda hoping it was a combination of cheap gas and very little gas left in the tank....

And nope, no lights were on to indicate any problems.. It definitely wasn't the TCS though.. It was like when you drive a car past it's max speed and the governor kicks in and cuts off gas flow...

did your light come on the other times when it got low?
if not you still might want to bring it in to the dealership to have them check it out before it's too late

oh man, that sounds wierd. But wouldnt the low octane make the engine have strange noises or something?

I believe so, but I'm not 100% sure.. I'll have to look the next time to be sure!

I agree and it had me worried initially. I was gonna take it back to the dealer to be checked out, but I haven't been able to recreate the problem and I don't want them to have my car for a few days if they are not going to be able to do anything to fix it.... So I thought I'd give the forum a shot to see if anyone else experienced the same thing.......

I've never even heard of a Z doing that and I've been lurking here for a pretty long time.
