i was a previous owner of a modded 2003 6mt 350z that ran mid to low 13s constantly and i recently purchased a 2007 AT roadster with the hr. Hands down the hr is better.. It is way smoother, revs faster and keeps pulling till redline. The roadster feels just as fast to me as my old 350z and it is an automatic AND a heavier roadster. just my 2 cents.
I test drove an 07 earlier last year and I was not impressed. It just felt like a newer Z. Im thinking most the current DE owners are so used to the power/tq range that it won't be noticeable by the "butt dyno".
The average Z driver shouldnt notice a difference along most of the powerband until about 6K. Only then did know I was driving an HR. Like the OP said it definitely pulls hard up top. The 03-05 felt as "torquey" if not more from 3K to 5.8K. Which of course it is.
