Default My Z is TOTALLED !

Well,

On the night of the 22nd I had my Z out to run a quick errand. I was stopped at a red light on route 16 eastbound. It was very cold and my multi-gauge had its "icy" weather indicator activated. I'm pretty conscious of it so I tend to start in second gear to reduce torque when on flat surfaces, unfortunately due to the incline I was not able to. I proceeded forward from the light and noticed my 'slip' indicator was flashing so I up-shifted into 4th to reduce my RPMs, but my rear end began to sway from left to right pretty drastically despite my attempted compensation. I was traveling at about 15-20mph when I hit head first into the right side wall, continued to rotate clockwise and sustained very minor paint damage to the left drivers side. Anyway it looked worse than it was; it was light enough that the airbag wasn't deployed.

I dropped it off at my shop and awaited word for repair. In the mean time i figured it would be a good time to replace my kit with a Top Secret Version 1, new clutch, suspension, Varis VT CF hood etc. etc., but after hearing a message left by Commerce's appraisal department that all changed ! Apparently it is being written as a TOTAL LOSS !!!! WTF Look at the picture ... There was no damage to the radiator etc., no frame damage, transmission damage etc., etc., Whats the reason ?

What's the mileage of your Z? Perhaps the insurance company thought it wasn't worth it?

2003 Touring with 35,000miles - I have gap insurance which means i'll receive a check for the amount I paid, which is much more than what I owe =) In addition i'll have an option to purchase the vehicle back for $6,000.00. I have no clue what the hell is going on ! 3 of my 4 Volk GT-7's were scratched, but other than that the visible damage is all that was there. Strange, yet remarkably profitable for me =)

HAHAHA you've been dying to get them. There are only small scratches to them. I may buy the car back and part it out then sell the stock Z, it will have a salvaged title, but anyone smart enough to research it will know its a hell of a deal with only 35K on the car

Wow. Sorry about that. It sounds as if you did everything you could do not to have an accident, and just caught some ice. Good luck.

It's got to have frame damage, or something that isnt visible by the naked eye.

lol. Sounds like you've got no reason to complain. What is this gap insurance you speak of?

Just give the car to the insurance (less of a hassle) but in the mean time lets trade wheels so they think your car is stock.

Gap Insurance as I understand it is in the even of a total loss your paid the amount you purchased the car rather than the current book value.

No frame damage according to my shop (trust completely)

Not complaining, other than the sentimental value of my Z, its my second one but def my favorite.

Might be able to work something out with my Volks =) let you know later in the week

Gap insurance will insure one for the difference between what one would owe on a vehicle and what an insurance company says it's worth. This insurance is a must for someone who is considering purchasing a new vehicle since a new vehicle depreciates right after it is driven off the dealer's lot. Gap insurance would only help out if the car is still financed.
