Default Does getting a new motor hurt the value of a Z

I bought a new 06 350 in april of 07 with 1100 miles on it it started ticking. I took it to the dealership and they said it was a manufactuer defect they would replace the head but it was on back order so my car sat in the shop from 7/11/07 to 9/7/07. After one day of having it back the engine light comes on after 4 months of them telling me to bring it up there when it comes on so they can check it Im getting sick.So in january i go to sweep out the garage and its leaking oil now im pissed.I take back there and they say the valve cover gasket must of got pinched so they will order one and i can bring it back. This pass thursday i drop it off and they call me saying im gonna need a new motor because of Oil Concumption problems. I told them I was calling Nissan monday morning because a car with now 5500 miles on it shouldnt have all this **** going on. In my opinion putting a new motor in a car that new with that many miles depriciates the value of the car. I guess if corparte nissan wont help i gonna try the LEMON LAW. Any suggestions on wether you think it hurts the value of the car would be great...........thanks

The 06 oil consumption issue is a very common problem. Lots of people have had their engines replaced because of it. I don't know if it hurts the value, but I would assume if it is done at the dealership and given a good warranty it shouldn't matter too much.

Personnally I would expect to pay less for a car with a replaced motor... but I don't have very much experience buying cars..

$0.02

I don't believe it would make a difference. If anything, you would be able to sell the car easier by telling the buyer that other 06's have oil consumption issues, but you don't because you have a new revised engine by Nissan.

Most the time it doesn't hurt the value of common cars.Your thinking more along the lines of older cars.Corvette, cuda, impala,Limited rare cars alike.ALL in ALL its what the buyer wants.

Like many people have said previously, if nissan replaces the motor with more oil effeceint engine you should be fine on resale purposes.

EDIT. Changed my mind. I agree with track11z. If you are buying a classic Corvette made in the 1960s, you want all the numbers (motor, transmission) to match.

thats def. true but who is really thinking 30 years ahead in a Z i know at about 110 if my motors not already rebuilt it will be seeing an overhaul with all new goodies lol. I sold a 69 camaro everything orig. except for motor it put down 538 to the wheels and i sold it for more then most matching number camaro's are going for. Its all in the market, what people want. You are right in a sense but i think as long as its put in by the dealer and warrantied its fine.

There was a time, and that still holds true that Number Matching was priority. Iv crawled under many Corvettes, Dodge,Chev, Ford Muscle Cars with a flashlite and mirrors in order to verify numbers. The outcome could mean 1000s or even 10s of thousands of dollars. This no longer seems relivent, and appears that a new motor will simply be an asset.

I'll refreash this again. Now if I wanted to buy a NISMO Z.I'd expect the original motor to be in there, not a replacement.

If you bought a "Limited Edition" of anything, you would want it # matched.....Might be a Clock. If I owned one of the first 100 '03s Id want it # matched. Common sense dictates those decisions

IMHO a car is never the same once the motor has been taken out.

How?? Every car I've driven in is never the same after the motor is replaced, or has been taken out for major repair. Nothing is better than factory installed. I also like the piece of mind that my motor has never been pulled vs. someone pulling the motor out and the mechanic not torquing something properly, forgetting to put something on or secure properly. Rattles, leaks, shaking, ect...
