Does getting a new motor hurt the value of a Z
I bought a new 06 350 in april of 07 with 1100 miles on it it started ticking. I took it to the dealership and they said it was a manufactuer defect they would replace the head but it was on back order so my car sat in the shop from 7/11/07 to 9/7/07. After one day of having it back the engine light comes on after 4 months of them telling me to bring it up there when it comes on so they can check it Im getting sick.So in january i go to sweep out the garage and its leaking oil now im pissed.I take back there and they say the valve cover gasket must of got pinched so they will order one and i can bring it back. This pass thursday i drop it off and they call me saying im gonna need a new motor because of Oil Concumption problems. I told them I was calling Nissan monday morning because a car with now 5500 miles on it shouldnt have all this **** going on. In my opinion putting a new motor in a car that new with that many miles depriciates the value of the car. I guess if corparte nissan wont help i gonna try the LEMON LAW. Any suggestions on wether you think it hurts the value of the car would be great...........thanks
The 06 oil consumption issue is a very common problem. Lots of people have had their engines replaced because of it. I don't know if it hurts the value, but I would assume if it is done at the dealership and given a good warranty it shouldn't matter too much.
I don't believe it would make a difference. If anything, you would be able to sell the car easier by telling the buyer that other 06's have oil consumption issues, but you don't because you have a new revised engine by Nissan.

EDIT. Changed my mind. I agree with track11z. If you are buying a classic Corvette made in the 1960s, you want all the numbers (motor, transmission) to match.

There was a time, and that still holds true that Number Matching was priority. Iv crawled under many Corvettes, Dodge,Chev, Ford Muscle Cars with a flashlite and mirrors in order to verify numbers. The outcome could mean 1000s or even 10s of thousands of dollars. This no longer seems relivent, and appears that a new motor will simply be an asset.
