Default Which model year to avoid?

I am thinking of buying a used 350Z coupe. I am looking for something under 20K.
I know the early models have had many problems like tire feathering and
transmission problems.

Have those problems been fixed in later year models or not?
Which model years should I avoid?

Thanks

Are the problems I mentioned above have been fixed in 2005 models?

I know many will say to avoid the 03. Never had any problem with my 03 Z. The best advice, buy a Z that you will be the first owner. Never know what the previous owner(s) have done to the car. I do feel like it's a crap-shoot when it comes to purchasing a used sports car.

get an 03 so you can have money left for mods, you can check for tire feathering, my 03 has it, but my friends doesn't(i was p*ssed when he told me that) but it also isnt my daily driver(92 buick lesabre). So i would suggest thoroughly inspecting an 03 and modding it good luck!

Exactly what he said, i'd worry more about how the previous owner took care of the car.

03 and 04 take better to bolt ons the HR motors if not tuned i have found most of the time lose power when intakes and exhaust are added......but getting it tuned is a must with bolt ons anyway

i have a 03 no problems besides the 2nd week i had it the 3rd gear went out but warr took care of it..... always buy the extra warr on any used car

03 - Tranny Problems
04 05 - Don't adapt well to mods
06 - Oil Consumption

I know there are more little things to add to each year but these are the major problems I have seen so far.

I have an 03 and no major problems to report yet. First thing I did was have the tranny replaced under warranty. Just went in told them I felt a little grinding and without any hassle they replaced it for free. Covered up to 60k on the Z GL!
