Default New member - Need advice on a possible 350Z purchase.

Hi all, I'm a new member here. I recently came across a used 04 350Z with only 4800 miles on it. I'm staying at a friend's house and will only be here for another week or so. So I need advice on whether this car is a good buy.

Here's all the info that I have -

2004 350Z 6-sp
<5000 miles
I'm not sure but I believe that the car is the base trim. However, I noticed that it had HID lights.
Car looks almost brand new. Not a scratch inside or out. Was stored in a garage for all these years. I even found the car cover under the hatch.
I test drove the car and it had no issues.

The dealer is asking $22,000 for the car. Is this a fair price for this car?

Here are some additional concerns I have about the car -

Practicality - how does everyone here deal with the issue of lack of trunk space? I'm not sure my golf bag would fit back there.
Reliability - How reliable is the 04 350Z overall? I've read about some tire feathering and suspension alignment issues. Are those only on the 03 Zs? How can I check for them? Since the b-b warranty is over, will those problems still be taken care at no cost to me if I take it to a dealer?
Warranty - I'm guessing that the original 5/60K powertrain warranty is still available and will run out next year. Can I add an aftermarket warranty to such an old car?

Basically, looking for the my350z forums recommendation on an 04 Z and a good price for this car.

Sounds like a fair deal, yes the golf bags will fit (2 actually) and if you want a practical car look elsewhere. I used to daily drive my Z but the PA winters are kind of harsh at times plus all the darn cinders on the road scratch the crap out of the front. The tire feathering issue can be fixed with an alignment or two. Of course you can add aftermarket parts to the car, why wouldn't you be able to? I would offer the dealer $20,500 and see what happens. Good luck in whatever you decide.......

Sounds promising with such low miles. Go here to get clues on how to tell model:

Have a mechanic you pay/trust check it out before you buy.

I would not buy an 03 or 04 because of the early model year problems with tire feathering and the gas tank filler hose, etc.,etc., etc.. The hose is a big deal to have replaced. Try to buy an 04.5 or later.

Thats exactly the reason I went with an 04.5. You can tell via manufacture date on the door jam...I believe the VIN number also tells...but I don't remember how to decifer that

If you search this forum you will find pretty much all the answers to your questions. As for practicality of a 350z... its a sports car. many members actually have another car along with the Z. Get someone you trust to check the car out before you buy, and if everything checks out and you decide you want the car, jump on it-if everything is good with the car its a good deal. GL

The Z is not a practical car to drive at all. If you have other vehicles, such as a pickup or another sedan/car, than you won't have issues. If you purchase the car, you will probably regret it a year or 2 because you won't be able to haul your things around in it. I have a pickup for winter driving, and my wife as a toyota matrix for hauling friends around. I use my Z as a daily driver 8 months out of the year. If I didn't have any other vehicles, than I would never have bought one.

Welcome, the Z is a very practical, enjoyable, and all around fun car. I spend 2 hours per day in mine and enjoy every minute!

LOL. I am just playing the odds. 9 out of 10 “Thinking about buying a 350Z” members are gone in a month never to be heard from again.
