Default new guy post of the day

Hey fellers, just wanted to say hi to everyone. been reading these forums for the past few weeks from work and finally came to the conclusion that I should definitely get the Z.

Some of the guys down at the texas forum already helped me out a bit but I got a few more general questions about purchasing that I thought would ask a more frequented forum.

i was looking for a new 08 SMB enthusiast coupe 6sp

1. i went to edmund and found the model + options i wanted was 29,166 invoice. when i was on the phone with the dealer last night he gave me 29,700ish for a similar car. my question is how much lower should I reply with because i'm assuming that the number he quoted had bit of profit margin set in. would 28 or 27,500 be too low for a Z?

2. I haven't talked to other dealers in the houston area, but assuming that this guy gives me something around the invoice found on edmunds, would it be safe to say other dealers would unlikely go lower? In other words, how often/common is it for dealers to go below invoice for a new Z?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys give me, i'm probably gonna get the car regardless of the deal, but it never hurts to retain some fat on the ol wallet

Im assuming this is a base Z? Im not too sure but if it is then I would say 27,500 is fair.

i'm looking for an enthusiast cuz i'm super enthusiastic about this car! ha

I know 27,500 is way under invoice, but I wanted to see if throwing out numbers like that could make the dealer lower his offer

you say the price he quoted was a good one?

I guess my question was more along the lines of:

how likely and how far do they usually deviate from their initial quoted price?

I can't wait for the lowball members saying "ZOMG, I got my Entuziast for 26,900, you are getting teh screwed".

On your Enth., invoice priced at $29,166, $28,291 is dealer's price after hold back (-3%, but you might want to check for your state). Ask for something above hold back and below invoice.

What is stopping you from conducting a real-world field experiment? Conjecture is fun, but it's like flooring your new SMB Enthusiast Z from a standstill in the rain.

hehe true that, the dealer is slated to call me back before the end of today. But I didn't throw out something too unreasonable to the guy.

Thanks kmanz, i'll go do some research on that.

The dealer will love for you to start talkin' numbers so that he can throw some back.

the plan i had in mind was to wait for him to quote a number after me picking options, then tell him its too high for me.

as long as the numbers he throws out are lower than his initial number, it can't be a bad thing right?

Lets put it this way i got mine for $31,500 OTD. And its an enth model. That puts it at somewhere around 27.5 or 28 before taxes and licence.

Shopping by phone is a waste. The dealer is going to tell you want you want to hear to get you into the showroom.

What that does is start you with a high ball price. Not a method that I recommend.

i low balled my dealer and got a great deal. you will most likely get a better deal if you can wait untill the end of the month. they tend to be more "generous" near the end of the month to boost sales for that month.

Check this site out. I didn't personally use it, but I got the benefits from the reports my friend purchased. Some good reading regardless. On one of the cars I purchased there was a $5000 factory to dealer incentive that the dealer didn't know about. After looking into it they called me back, dropped $5K of their price and we had a deal.
