What works for me is to put the nozzle UPSIDE DOWN when you fill it. Should fix the prob..

Putting gas in your car should not take tricks or black magic.

When I first got the car I had this problem at every pump at the station where I was filling up. I switched to a Chevron station and the problem virtually disappeared. However, I had the problem with pump #5 at the Chevron station. I moved the car to another pump and the problem disappeared. Now I avoid pump #5. Obviously the problem was the pump set up. For whatever reason some pump set ups just don't seem to work with the Nissan gas filler mechanism. Never have this problem anywhere with my Honda CRV. And so it goes......

its cause you have one of them Diesel Z's...try it!

seriously, My Miata had this issue, but on that car there was a recall on a one way valve in the filler neck. it would stick closed and just barely let any gas in....took me longer than 5 other miata's together to fill up.

i have an 03 track.... i just bought it. mine does the same thing but an easy fix for it was turn the pump handle upside down then attemp to fill up.. worked perfect for me filled up completely no prob.... but yeah some stations mine would click off for like every .5 gal. when i tried it normal. its splash back getting on the pump because of the angle of the drop in the hose. at least thats what i gathered from mine.

how many gallons does an average z's tank hold???

Just got the gas latch release glitch; otherwise, my '04 Tour' Coupe is fine.

There are actually a couple threads pertaining to this issue. I started one as well about a year ago. There was a poll wether or not it happens to some people on the forums. It was split close to 50/50..I would link it but I forget the thread names and dont really feel like searching.

I noticed it only happens at certain pumps. In my opinion it seems to have to do with the length of the nozzle and how far it goes into the car when filling up. Its like gas gets caught in the pipe and causes the pump to think the tank is full. I dont know in all honesty.

You have to replace the shutter valve on the end of the fuel filler tube in the tank itself. If you know how to remove a fuel sending unit then you can do it yourself. It simply involves pulling your fuel pump out of your tank thru your glovebox.

After that you have to bend one baffle towards the rear of the tank slightly back and remove the old shutter valve and replace it with the new one. It just turns to the left and comes off, put your new one on and turn it to the right until you feel it stop turning, give a slight tug, if it doesnt move then you put it in right. Bend that baffle back to its original position and put your sending unit back in.

I did this on my own car and it fuels up fine now with no intermittent stops while fueling.
I had the exact same problem with my '05 and it was fixed per the TSB. It's been fine since.

Just had this problem yesterday... I'll be taking my car into the dealer over the weekend. Glad you made this thread, I had no idea it was a recall.

If you pull the nozzle out just a little bit at a time it will usually fix the problem. Mine does it everyone once in a while and my car had the recall done on it. If you just pull back slightly on the nozzle it will usually keep working. I know that the car has a 16 gallon tank to so I can usually tell if I have gotten about the right amount of gas or not.

I kinda have the same problem but mine is that I cant fill my car up all the way. It will just stop so I figure I have a full tank of gas and when I go to start up my car its 3/4 full on the gauge.

I picked up my '06 RT 1-1/2 weeks ago and have put gas in 3 times at 3 different stations: I drive 176 miles/day to/from work. I've had the problem at each of the 3 stations. It'll put in about 1/4 gallon of gas then shut off: again and again and again. It should not take a rocket scientist or "tweaking" the pump position to add gas!

I tried turning the pump handle upside down, which kind of worked; the pump didn't shut off at all (note to self... don't do this again).

Looks like I'm going to be taking it in to see what the deal is. It's frustrating spending 15-20 minutes putting 12 gallons of gas in the tank.
