DFW Tolltag Placement?
Just curious where you other DFW guys are placing your tolltag if you have one. I don't know whether I should place it on the dot matrix grid behind the rearview. If you place it below the grid, it's pretty conspicuous on the windshield. How about on the driver's side top corner? Anyone use one of the front mounted license plate type? without a license plate though?
I put mine in the dotmatrix in the 90 degree part where the rear view mirror power wire comes and up as high as I could put it. About 15% of it is completely hidden with a solid bar and it is further concealed by the dot matrix. I also painted it flat black and you can barely see it. I can post a pic if my description doesn't make any sense

Sounds like you guys have the same thing as we have here in New York.. We call it Easypass.. It pays all the tolls on the raods & bridges here. I found it works perfect while sitting in the empty space of the Nav System compartment.. So.. I never placed it on the window.. Give it a try.. You might be surprised.. I've never had a problem in the 8 months it's been in use.

It doesn't work here in the compartment don't do it. I got red lighted. I just hold it up when I go through a toll and store it in the nav space other times. I did stick one to my truck window though. Also, the dot matrix is the transmitter for your homelink.
Put mine behind the dots. Holding it up got me in trouble a few times as I was flying and forgot to put it up.
Did not know the dots were for the Homelink Transmitter. I know it opens the garage from a lot further then the old clicker. I thought the dots were for sun screening between the visors.

I used to work for the company that manufactures the tag and tag readers; my g/f currently still works for them. If your tag says Amtech (or TransCore), then it's one of theirs.
Amtech tags are completely passive. They work by "catching" a RF wave from the tag reader, altering it w/ the tag's ID, and "reflecting" it back. Amtech tags _must_ be placed on a surface where it can "catch" and "reflect" the RF wave (i.e. on a windshield). Therefore, placement of the tag is crucial.
Metallic window tint may sometimes cause interference, placing the tag too close to the metal frame may sometimes cause interference, and holding the tag against the window may sometimes cause interference (the human body is a giant antenna).
That said, I place mine in the center of the windshield below the dots (which should be for the auto-dimming mirror).
Michael.
