Where do you kids come up with these CRAZY things?
Better yet... good point about the McLaren... you think they chose solid CF for just the hell of it?
As for the rice comment... try http://www.altezza-euro-lights.com/, then get in touch with me. That SHOULD educate you as to what rice is... as for CF hoods... Get a grip... I bet you even think Spoon wheels are rice, don't you? Go try www.ClubSi.com... I think your head is still stuck over there.
Sorry -- but the carbon fiber hood does nothing to enhance the Z. Both performance and looks are severly modified to what can be considered "cheap"... a diamond-studded, gold Rolex on a sleek body does not match. no class.

I must say when I lifted the hood of the G35 I was amazed how light the hood was. The carbon fiber may be lighter, but not by much if so. I would consider the CF hood mainly aesthetic on the Z. I also don't think it's really fair to compare a Million dollar super car and a 600 dollar hood. Even thought the Mclaren is made of Carbon Fiber, they still paint it. The CF on that car is for go, not show.
Am I the only one that doesn't like it? besides Throbbing_Zon....
I've never been a fan of CF hoods......unless they were painted. I guess I don't like the contrast AND it doesn't seem like efficient modding when the Al hood is so light to begin with. I personally don't see it being worth the money.
I've never been a big fan of extravagant body molding either, but I can't help but think that a clean, FUNCTIONAL, roof scoop would match the lines of the car well. But who are we kidding, it's not a rally car. I still think it would look nice. Anyone wanna P-shop one?
to each his own, I suppose, regardless of who or what......post lotsa pics.

I never understood why people would get a CF hood, and not paint it. It simply looks retarded, 'nuff said. If you actually road race, CF hoods have a tendency to have their latch break due, resulting in the hood flying in the windshield (unless you have hoodpins). So if you do get a CF hood (which will probably only save you 5-10lbs on the Z), paint it! As for an accident, well, yes, I've actually seen one CF hood shatter, and another one simply fall off as it broke the latches.

Hold up for a second here, you forgot HondaSociety, SHO, ClubHonda, wait... pretty much every Honda board out there is rice with the exception of Honda-Tech.com (we're all snobs on there). At least on H-T, you have all the Honda Challenge guys (ECHC), and a ton of NASA and SCCA instructors, workers, and drivers.
John, who even though he is getting rid of his Honda, he will still be an active H-T member / mod

i love my cf hood on my maxima. i left it unpainted. why paint it? if thats what you're aiming for.
the CF benefits out weigh the negatives. literally.
you can have something that weighs only 11 pounds (my maxima stock OE hood weighed 40 pounds stock) and with three layers of vacuum bagged CF, its stronger than aluminum (structurally) and wont become daamaged.
ever seen an accident with a CF hood on a car? the front end will be messed up. but the hood will flex, and return to shape.
dont believe me? fiberimages.com has great hoods. (the one that i have)
i'm talking to a shop down next to me, to do the 350Z hood and rear wing when it comes out. so expect a hood probably in end of sept.. or whenever i get my Z.
CF has great possibilities.. dont knock it if you dont know it.

I guess I am showing my age or I am old school, but why the h%#@ would you want to put a dark hood on without painting it, unless maybe its a black car, it looks moronic, it looks like those cars that have had an accident and been repaired but not painted yet, am I missing something here.

have you ever seen CF in sunlite before?
i probably the coolest thing when its reflecting light off the fibers and its shining though the clear coat.
i was hesistant at first because my maxima is dark blue .. but man. it looks SOOO good with it on there. i wouldnt think twice about painting it.. maybe if you had a light colored car it might clash a bit. bit really. CF is actually an art.
if you get a flat black painted hood with crooked edges. yea. it looks nasty. but seriously. you cant fully enjoy CF parts if you're not in the sun.

personally i love the glare the cf hood gives in sunlight(like maximadriver said)
but some people dont know its cf and think its just a black hood... but westpak.. ya gotta see the "glare" it looks just plain awesome...

Well obviously the MOST people don't paint a CF hood b/c they want everyone to know they have one! If it's painted, it'd be hard to tell by looking, and you wouldn't be able to show it off. I just wreaked my Maxima Mon. night, and have to get the entire front bumper, hood, windshield and airbags all replaced, so I'm kinda interested in the benfits of a CF hood if you all say it takes damage well (popping by into shape) and all that, although I must agree. I'd definately get it painted.
Unless they are painted or they are on a black car, CF hoods look terrible. I sold my pearl white 240SX back in Jan. and since then the guy who bought it wrecked it and put a CF hood on it. Everyone always comments to me on how bad the 240 looks now and I agree. I've seen some nice things done with carbon fiber, like when people paint most of the hood but leave some of it uncovered making a racing stripe, but an unpainted CF hood just plain looks bad. You can't tell its CF unless you are in direct sunlight and standing right above it anyway.
I don't understand where people get the idea a CF hood will not break in an accident. A CF hood will shatter in an impact unless it is a very light hit, just like the CF driveshaft that will be on the Z. I think a CF hood would be mostly a waste of money on the Z, for the money you will see no gain at all in performance.

HUGE, adjustable wings on street cars = rice
Carbon fiber hoods on track cars = track car

There's absolutely no necessity in equipping a street-only car with ******** mods like CF hoods and adjustable spoilers. All show, no go. What's next? Big, stupid-*** banners across the top of the windshield that read, "TEAM Z RACERZ"
