Default Towing a 350Z?

Hey all,

Need some help. I am planning on moving and need to tow my 350Z. I'm looking at renting a UHaul trailer to put all 4 wheels up. My Z is lowered but I can put the stock springs on to move if that will help. Has anyone used a UHaul trailer (or another company) to tow their Z? I'm not sure if it'll work. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

if the trailer is too high, just put some wood blocks down and it should work. i was going to rent a trailer some time last year to tow my Z to a car show out of town, however i didn't have anything to tow it with...lol.

update: actually, I just contacted an independant towing company here in florida to see how much it would cost to transport my z from ft. lauderdale to orlando for the HIN show, it would cost me 300 bucks each way.

i then called uhaul and saw that they charge 50 bucks for the same trip. hopefully i can borrow someone's pick up, and i would be set.

Have you done it? Something tells me it's not that easy with such low ground clearance. Just want to make sure it'll work on a UHaul before I pay for it.

JUST LIKE azula said...you may need go go buy some 2x10 boards so that you can drive your low car up the ramps.....

I was saying to Azula, instead of trying to run around town to borrow's someons truck, why doesnt he just go rent a uhaul pick up truck....here in tx you can rent a regular cap uhaul truck for like 19.99 a day...

I towed my car on an open uhaul trailer, here is some advice:
1) Take the front bumper off of the car for clearance reasons, especially if its lowered.
2) Find a driveway or ramp that lowers the angle of approach up the ramp... these trailers' loading ramps are usually covered with surface rust and you will end up spinning your wheels on a steep approach.
3) Make sure you are limber enough to climb out of the hatch or the side windows because it will be impossible to open the doors with the placement of the trailer's wheels.

Thanks for the tips. Any issues with tying it down due to clearance?

No issues with the tie downs or chains at the pickup points as they're flexible.

Also, be very careful about using blocks or pieces of wood to raise the ramps. Mine flew out as the car got stuck spinning its rear wheels halfway up the ramp. I actually used two floor jacks at that point to raise the ramps and gingerly drove the car up. It was quite a process, so, if at all possible, find a driveway!!

Yeah it was really scary, but the car was stuck there and a creative (albeit slightly dangerous) solution was needed. Im down in Miami, you?

bump:

now i'm finding out that there is a possibility that the z does not fit on the uhaul trailer, is there any validity to this? my car is lowered as well and it would not be worth the hassle to remove the front bumper to get this thing on the trailer....i'm leaning towards not doing it right now.

I used a Uhaul when I moved into my new home last year. I just angled the trailer on the driveway and it swooped right in with no problems. The only thing is you gotta get out through your hatch, since you cannot open your doors because of the wheel fenders I hope your not a huge fella or else you'll have to let your tiny little wife/gf/bff drive it up.....but then again they too can give some problems :P on stick shift.

I hate to bring this thread from the dead, but where are the tie down points on a Z?

Instead of the full flat-bed trailer from U-Haul, you can just rent the tow dolly. I advise unbolting the driveshaft though.
