Is the dealer screwing me over?
Ordered the 2003 touring on June 13th and told them my options that I wanted and did not want. Well car is coming in next friday and they said that Nissan threw on the Aero package (which was one of the options I didn't get) and if I want the car I have to fork up the extra $520 for it. Are they screwing me over or is their story "Factory had extra parts for 2003 and threw it on to get rid of it" a valid story. Let me know your opinions, I am debating on if I should go ahead with it I got the touring with everything except the aero and navi for $31,100 AT.
Should I say screw it, or should I say what the hell? Thanks guys!

No way I would pay that!
You told them what you wanted and they are trying to give you something else. Tell them to give you the car at the price you agreed on or order you a new one the way you wanted it. Don't let them push you around, it's your money.
It's too late to order a 2003 and I do not want a car that has been test driven all over the place. They looked at other dealers getting cars off the boat and said there was none that matched my descruption, I am not sure if I like the spoiler or not. So they can't order another one from overseas cuz 2004's are coming out and they won't give me the same deal on a 2004. Car is coming in a little over a week and I am as confused as hell. Anymore ideas? Thanks!
pretty much your stuck with what you can get for 2003
you can consider ordering a 2004, but thats more waiting
i went throught the same ordeal, but my dealer found me one exactly how I wanted it, and it only had 30 miles on it when i recieved it.

Take the car ONLY if they give you the Aero package for FREE. You didn't want it, so tell them you wont' pay for it. Their cost on it is only $390, they can afford it. Play a little hardball, they won't let you walk for $390 especially since they know you're a buyer.
If they are that tight and lose the deal for $390 on something you didn't want, they don't deserve your business --take it elsewhere.
I have the Aero package on my Enthusiast. I didn't like the look last year when the Z came out, but over time it's grown on me and I personally think it adds to the car's appearance.
I like the look! My 2 cents.
Peace

From your post it looks like the dealership is telling you the car is coming directly from Nissan not another dealership. I could be completely wrong but I think that’s bull
1. I am pretty sure that 3 weeks is not nearly enough turnaround time for a dealership to order a car from the factory, have it shipped, got through customs etc. You gotta remember those cars come from Japan on a boat.
2. I am pretty sure that our cars have a “final assembly point” i.e. spoilers are put on the cars in this country when they get off the boat.
3. As far as the left over parts argument - I can't imagine the aero package being different for next year
4. I think (I could be completely wrong on this) the production run for the 2003 350Z has ended before June (again, I am not sure about this)
I think your dealership is getting the car from another dealer. Dealerships like to trade cars not buy them from one another. If they trade they get to keep their holdback. They only have a couple of dealerships that they like to trade with. I think they can only find a touring with a spoiler and they try to push that car on you.
There is an easy was to check. When I got my Z my dealership told me they were getting it from another dealer. I was curious to find out where they were getting it.
Nissan’s website is very slow with updating their Inventory. Ask the dealership for the vin number. They should not object to that. If they do tell them you need it to get insurance quotes or something. The next part is going to take some time. Go to the Nissan website, build your Z with all the options and search for one in a 60-100 mile radius and try to find one with the same vin number.
If I found out they were lying to me I would walk out unless the price went down to 30,000. Either way I would not give them a dime for that spoiler.
Good luck,
Dmitry

Wow thanks for all the ideas and comments, I appreciate it, I think it's going to be a last second decision, but I highly doubt they will get my business unless they negotiate, even though they said they would not with this aero package. I am so unsure, I think they are just trying to pull my chain.
I would be very happy to hear more of your opinions and thoughts, thanks!!!

I agree with Dmitry. I think this car is comming from another dealer. If they told you it was being special ordered I wouldn't trust them. Three weeks is way too short for a oversea order.
If they don't throw in the aero package for free tell them you think they got the car from another dealer and NNA will be very interested to know they are lying to their customers.

Actually it is a little over a month, the car will be in July 17th, I ordered the car on June 13th, I will definitely try the VIN number thing though on the Nissan website. Any other suggestions? Thanks!
A little off topic, but here it is:
vman, you say the dealer says they will not negotiate with the aero, I think they are trying something.
My story:
Couple weekends ago I went with my sister to get her a car. She really wanted a WRX. Here's the deal: the car she wanted had this aweful "carbon fiber" dash kit installed. It wasn't a sticker type thing, but it was honest to god the most horrible thing we had ever seen, and it was supposed to be a 600 dollar accessory?!!?!?!? The first guy we were talking said he'd trade it out for a spoiler, and eat the labor cost (which was 80 bucks an hour) Anyway, we are at the dealer and after about an hour of talks, we are really close to getting the deal made when the regional manager comes out and says that he cannot take off the carbon fiber. Not that he wouldn't or didn't want to, it was impossible he said. This guy flat out lied to us. She said she wouldn't buy it with that on there, and we got in the car and left. Wouldn't you beleive it, 10 minutes later they are calling us up wanting to deal again. My sister says "I will not buy the car with that carbon fiber on there, period" so this guy (third one now) calls their techs and sure enough, wouldn't you know it, it can be taken off. Actually, it is swapped with the original dash plastic peices.
My point is: Dealers will lie. I didn't think they would until then, but they do. It's so sad that people like that exist and make others look bad. But, now I do not trust a thing they say.
Unfortunately, that was the last 2003 WRX in blue within 100 miles. She ended up getting it from them (without the carbon fiber). so, if anyone here is looking for subaru in KC, don't deel with Mike Miller Subaru. I would have rather of not gotten that car then deal with those people.
BTW, yes I did try to steer her away from that car.

Dude, just have them get the car there, tell them you will pay for half the aero kit or something.
Dont screw a 35k deal for $500.00 that doesnt make sense.

No doubt the dealer is sticking it to you regardless of whether Nissan or the dealer screwed the goose.
On the other hand, a Touring for 31 Gs & change sounds like a buy to me; well below MSRP. If thats the case, I would not blow the deal over 500 bucks just to teach them a lesson. Dealers are dumb ***** anyway & lessons are lost on them.
To me the issue is will you be happy with the spoiler? When I bought mine I wanted Brickyard color with no (as in none) spoiler.
That combination was so important to me (and I wanted the car NOW) that I seached every Nissan dealer within 500 miles, upgraded to a Performance Model & payed the dealer 250 bucks to have it driven the 300 miles from the dealer to me. Nutty? Maybe, but I'm one happy camper.
Focus is not 500 bucks; its what your gonna feel about the look of your Zzzz.

I think it could actually be coming over on the boat. Maybe it wasn't "ordered" for you, but was already coming in to that dealership. That's what happened to me. I went June 3rd to my dealership and they were getting one in with the options and colors I wanted. They said it should arrive July 23rd. But I hope it comes sooner than that cause this wait is killing me.
I would say try contacting Nissan corprate sutomer support. I had my dealer try to change something with my deal while I was waiting for delivery and I gave Nissan a call and next thing I know the dealer is calling back appologizing and going back to their origonal offer. I didn't approach them aggressively, I was very polite and just presented my story, they took care of the rest.
Two things:
1) The car is coming from a dealer. Aero kits are installed in Los Angeles.
2) There is no way in hell they have "extras". My car was actually delayed for two weeks in December, sitting in LA waiting for an aero kit because they had received twice as many orders for them as they expected, and didn't have enough to go around.
I'd call them on it and make them pay for it. Don't call the deal off immediately, but make it clear you will walk out the door if they don't deal.

As others have pointed out, it's a very good deal so my question is this: What is more important- the spoiler or the deal? Do you really hate it? Or do you like it and just don't want to be screwed? If the second scenario is true, I just have to say that you should just negotiate a bit, and take the deal because if you don't mind the spoiler, you will come out ahead. I personally like it.
P.S. For those who mentioned trading with another dealer, how is this a good or bad thing?
