I think I really need to change my driving style. I always shift at around 2500 rpm for normal driving, which is a lot lower than when I was driving the RSX(3300rpm).

GOT to be kidding!
Once it's warmed up I normally run up to 5000 if I'm taking it easy, 6000 if I'm pushing it. I rarely or never chirp the wheels because I feather the clutch. If you're chirping, you're letting the clutch out too fast.

i shift around 5000rpm. after hitting 5th gear. i stopped and slowed. down. and i smelled something burning. i 'm thinking its my clutch.
is it tat i'm letting the clutch out 2 fast? or am i ridding the clutch?

Best way to avoid this is to consciously put our left foot on the floor between shifts. It feels awkward at first but you'll get used to it and it goes a long way toward improving clutch life.

I always try to rev match and slip the clutch. Even in "regular" cars like my girlfriend's old Accord. It just makes for smoother driving, and it's a good habit to get into.

mine chirp between 1 and 2 when I intend to push the boundaries. I mean 6600 RPM shift, fast, and the revs cant drop fast enough.
standard driving, I release the gas somewhat so that it drops to the right amount, then let the clutch out smoothly, not really slow, just smooth. tires should not ever even come close to peeling or you are continuously doing something incorrect. a little jerking isnt bad, just annoying. but so much that your chirping... change your method. hard to say how exactly without driving with you.
best bet, find a friend or something that knows how to drive manual well. have him drive with you and he can likely diagnose your problem quickly. its probably either your not letting off the gas and allowing the revs to match at all, or your letting the clutch out way to fast. maybe both. the tires dont chirp all that easily...

I'm shifting at around 4000, or whenever I hear the engine working to a higher rev. However, when I drive it hard i'm shifting at around 5000, (which is not often).
I have this problem, I jerk it in first and sec. So I get that bounce thing, not bad though. Although sometimes it's smooth. I've been driving a clutch for years. I do it about 80% of the time I can't seem to figure it out where it actaully engages. Is it low or high?

Vicarious - I think we have the same problem in our cars - need to go get that checked out.
Anyway, 1st and 2nd - around 2000 - 2500. 3rd and above: 3000 - 3500 - that's for normal city-driving. Add 1000+ more if I'm trying to accelerate quickly. I usually slip it into 6th around 65 - 70 mph, give or take.
As far as 1st and 2nd go ... same thing applies here Vicarious and synth19 ... I can get it in there smoothly if I shift at less than 2000.
This your first stick? It's the first one I've owned - I've driven other MT cars and I can shift a lot better in 1st gear on those than on the Z. It's the power ... I guess.
Happy driving! Let me know if you get to the dealership and get that damn clanking checked out!
Have a good one!

Austin - im probably going to go to the dealer in about 2 weeks because thats the only time i can spare not having a car in case that they have to keep it for awhile..hopefully brucela will find out what the problem is on friday and if its a big deal.
oh yeah, today i drove the Z and i think there is a connection between the smoothness of changing from 1st - 2nd gear because i tried to be as smooth as i could today from changing gear and it did not make that much noise at all...oh yeah, do u sometimes FEEL the clunk in the shift **** when it makes the clunk in going from 1st to 2nd?

I usually shift around 3k, any higher than that and the car starts screaming Going to 2nd though I have to shift around 2500 to make it smooth out a bit. I hate the 1-2 shift cause it is always so rough
