I am driving a 03 Tanck Z. I have an extended warranty till October 2008. Experiencing failed synchro on 3rd gear - very common. So I called NISSAN to ask what should be my next step to get a replacement - problem is I moved out from US.

I was trying to resolve this case for more than 2 months !!! I called Nissan USA 5 or 6 times and they were telling me that local specialist will contact me within 1-2 business days. What a %@$#@! !!! After 2 months waiting for their calls I called Nissan again asking what kind of joke is this ?? I got a call from local specialist the same day. And here is what they told me: "Since I moved out from USA - my extended warranty is no longer valid !! " I was shocked !! I understand they could ask me to pay for international-shipping or labor outside USA ... but I don't think, that the fact that I am out of USA has anything to do with the faulty part installed in my american car that I am claiming to replace !!!

Why would I pay for extended warranty first place ?? Do you guys think I should call my lawyer or talk to Nissan again ?

I asked the same qestion on Nissan Help forum and moderators advised me to call a lemon law lawyer. What do you guys think ? Anybody has a contact number to a good lawyer handling that kind of cases ? PM me if so please...

 

I'm sure if you read the fine print, you'll find that the Warranty is only valid in the USA.

It's like medical insurance, it's good within the states but when you go overseas, you have no coverage.

As for lemon law, that applies when you repeatedly try to get the same problem fixed, not a one time problem that you can't get fixed in the manner you choose. Lemon law also applies in the US, it's probably not "international".

 

This is very common with all types of warranties. Not just cars.

You probably signed something as well that said valid in the US only, so I don't know if there is much you can do.

 

What does the warranty say about repairs outside the USA?

 

Well, I honestly don't think thats right at all. Even if it says VALID IN USA. He can bring the part to the U.S. and have them fix it. He paid for warranty, he should be able to use it even if he chooses to step accross the borders.

 

you would have to bring the car back to get it fixed under warranty, not sure what that would cost but probably way to much

 

My Tranny is fine. He just does his own thang...

 

thanks for the advices ... it is way cheaper to buy a new tranny than to transport my car across Atlantic... I will know for future to save money on extra warranties and spend this money on actual repairs ...

 

the shop that did my TT set-up has good connections with the local Nissan dealer......they knew i had that same problem and with the shops help Nissan gave me a new tranny last year......when my car was way past warr.

See if you deal with any shops if they have any good connections
