Any reason not to buy an 03 track edition
Ya it would be nice to have the track model...I will check tomorrow to see if the feathering is apparent when I go to see the car. If it is I probably wont buy it, if its not then CHING CHING!
well even so I dont know if I want to deal with the feathering issue even if they lower the price. Some say its fixable but others swear it isnt...so it probably isnt worth the risk.
03 Black Track Edition here.
Bought with 59000 miles.
Zero tire feathering and i have 18 inch Nismo LMGT4 rims.
Tranny is fine. (i dont beat on it)
Small grease on window (only noticable by me cause its only on driver side)
Now have 62000 miles and its been good so far (It is my Daily and i baby it)

they are the best for modding... VDC isnt so sensitive to tire size differences... barely check engine lights on heavy mods (i have a TN ST with the reflash and no CEL)
they are ultra mod friendly...
only issue i ever had was the window streak and axle click which is all under factory recall/ warranty...

03 here with 60k miles. Had it since day 1. Only issue is the snail trail on the window but thats fixable and cleanable. No Tire feathering at all. Had a small click in the axles but dealership regreased them n good to go.

I have an 03 track (bought new). Still have the window streaks but opted not to get it fixed. Had the gas tank filler hose taken care of on recall. I now have 27K miles and brakes are still good even with some autocrossing. I changed out the tires G-force KDWs. No other issues with the car.

03 Touring, now has 32,000 miles, zero issues. I had to add the Brembo's, but I did get the burnt orange.... I'd say go for the Track.

monZter eh? lol good one!
got a 03 touring 48,000 miles when i got it 3 months ago. Now 51,000 miles it runs great but the only thing that annoys me is the break squeeking everytime you hit the break.so far no tire feathering but everytime you roll down your window you see the snail grease. crossing my finger about the anxle and some other stuff, since i bought my 350z at a honda dealer with no warranty.
No one mentions the transmission problem? I believe a significant number of 2003 owners had to replace the transmission in the 350Z. You can easily discover if the car suffers from this by doing a test drive. “Run-her-up,” and shift quickly and hard into 3rd gear, then do the same with 5th gear. If you get any grinding, the transmission requires replacement. If you are still inside the 5 year/60k drive train warranty, Nissan does the replacement. Otherwise, you pay for the new transmission. I had a faulty transmission in my 2003 Z which Nissan kindly replaced under the drive train warranty.
The “tire feathering” problem is fixed with a proper alignment. Nissan discovered the problem and its repair early on, but the dealerships extended the issue simply because many of them had older or poorly calibrated alignment equipment. Once Nissan determined this and required their dealers to upgrade or calibrate alignment devices, the problem went away.
I did not experience the “grease tracks” on the windows, window lift-motor failure, or “axle clicking” so I cannot offer any information about these reported problems.
I did have trouble with the rear hatch not releasing, and that was due to the springs…

… which I replaced with a newer version, and that fixed the problem.
I believe there are some minor problems with the car’s CES: Bose upgrade (driver side door speaker going silent) and the OEM Clarion H/U (CD player not working).

^^ Nissan will replace your transmission if:

- You are within the 5 yr./60k drivetrain warranty.
- Your transmission is faulty (see above for determining this).
- The car has been maintained properly (i.e., you have followed the normal service schedule) and not abused.

I dropped it, new wheels and tires and an alignment from a performance alignment shop.
Zero issues since then.
I get it aligned once a year just to be safe but annual alignments are a good idea anyway.

BTW-> 03 track and no problems except for a greese streak on the passenger side window. Well, and a sucky stereo. Tranny is riflebolt prefect and always feels that way even when cold.
