Smile My weird, strange, wondering trip towards Z!

So - the 98 Camaro v6 has no giddy-up - "honey, we need a Mustang!
All the Stangs on dealer lots have $1500 worth of options we don't want -
"let's order a Stang!"
Place special order - find out 8 weeks later that we missed the window to order a 2008 Stang - but they can get us a 2009! No dealer invoice info on that car, though. Don't want to pay retail. Back to square one.
So - I find v6 speed parts for my v6 Camaro - Yippee!
Hmm, before I spend $$$ on a ten year old car - I wonder if those Solstices have gotten any cheaper?
Yes! A Solstice base, only $22,500 w/rebate - so I show the wife a Solstice - and a Sky.
She is - less than enthusiastic. "What's wrong?" I ask. It's a cute convertible!
"It's half a car" she counters. "if the wind blows hard, one of us will have to go sit in it to keep it from blowing away!
So - I find this out as we pull back into our garage.
"So, you want a more - substantial car?"
"Yes."
"Well - there is one more option..."
I drive her over to the Nissan lot - no hope here: I've shopped z's before, and every one on the dealer lot was $38K+++ optioned to the hilt!
What? A Z base for under 30k? They make those?
"Well, I'm not saying I like it - but at least it's a whole car!"
Me: "Oh, they sell these w/ side airbags, they are really safe."
Hmmm....
Two weeks later - waiting on a black 350Z base w/ side airbag option - a rare car - having it driven in from a different state! New!
I mentioned - in passing - that these things have a "little passing power on the highway " - for safety, of course!
Zoom, zoom!
Lord - please let this happen! Thanks!

The reasons the Mustangs have $1500 in options is because they are all **** as a base model. That's the entire reasoning behind the Mustang, its just a platform thats meant to be added on to.

Anyways, good luck with the Z.

you sound a lil bit whipped but best of luck with the 350Z, personally i think the extra $$$ is worth it to move up to an enthusiast package

So I take it you are only considering brand new for your next purchase (unless you stick with the 10 year old Camaro?)

I also used to think the Solstace was too little of a car with no power, but the GXP seems to have a little kick (got to test drive one a few weeks back)! Still a tiny, somewhat cramped car though and a different class than the Z.

OP lives in Abilene TX. They probably don't have a lot of imports there . . . Rustangs are probably a dime a dozen. But what do I know.

Look like you are a non bias buyer but you choose the vehicle you liked. I think each of the cars you looked at have there own merits the Mustang GT is a modders dream with plenty of cheap bolt ons. That makes it move out and stop pretty strong.

The Sky or Soltices are some cute new wave convertibles that are stylish and sheek. The turbo version really moves out but reliability is unknown.

Both are good looking Sporty cars.

But of the three the 350Z is the only true Sports Car of the group. The base is probably the fastest Z trim available bc it doesn't have a lot of the extra stuff on it. It requires that the driver be a better driver and it has all the 350Z's get up and go, plus it's porsche like styling. I hope you enjoy your Z-car.

When I went looking I was only looking to buy a Z-car or a Vette money and shifting decided what I really could buy as it did with my last three Z-cars.
