Every once and a while a Z bashing thread comes up on the other forums I'm on...why is it that people like bashing the Z? Their only witty comments are on its appearance, which they say is ugly or the engine saying its a slow car for what it is. One guy was just bragging how he beat a stock Z with his slightly modded 98 Regal GS. Ofcourse I had to defend the Z in the thread....I don't find it impressive that a modded GS beat a Z.
Just seems that ignorant people love to bash the awesome Z.

Not everyone's going to like the Z. Oh well. And it's very rare I whole heartedly believe a race posted on the internet, simply because it's pretty obvious there's way too much BS out there.
I'm sure there's some civic board out there where some guy is STILL bragging about how he beat me on the freeway. What he won't tell you is that I was merely cruising, and he blew by me, and flashed his hazards. A real race? Hardly. But I can promise you he'll tell it like I was trying like hell to beat him.
My advice--don't worry about it. You like the car and that's all that should matter.

Yeah...i don't care what they have to say...but sometimes it gets annoying when 10 people have to chime in with their stupid opinions...I know not everyone likes the Z but these people get so into it when bashing. The GS says he could tell the Z was punching it trying to race...but who knows and who cares. They act like 1/4 mile times tell how cool a car is and thats all they talk about between cars.
Some people think that 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers are most important. What makes a great sports car is its ability to perform well overall. Throw in some winding roads and hairpin turns, and that Regal (and many other cars) would have his a$$ handed to him.

lol..i went the "jealousy" route in the post..the best they can do is "jealous of what?"
Also I tell them I'm glad there car is quick in a straight line..lol. I tell them the Z is a canyon cutter and they'd have their azz handed to them. One guy with a Grand Prix claims his modded suspension set up is almost equal to the Z06's "skidpad"?

There are a lot of haters out there. Either they don't have one and wish they did but can't afford one so they hate anyone who does. Or their pride and joy was trounced by the Z and they feel threatened by the Z. Or they simply wish that their vehicle got as much attention as the Z. Or they're vehicle is no longer the favor of the month and the owner feels left out, etc. Like what others have mentioned: Jealously.
The only reassurance you need to give yourself is that you know what kind of car you're driving ... one that has been critically acclaimed by the industry ... and by us.
We're all here because we share the same enthusiasm about our vehicles - that's all that matters.
A Buick Regal?
Please ... what a joke. Talk about tasteless and tactless ... and overall bad taste. Did it have chromey's and painted metallic fluorescent/dark green with gold trim?
Most people that hate and insult others usually just have an inferiority complex - think about the famous example back to high school when the "cool" kid made fun of the fat kid or the dorky kid ... all in all, the "cool" kid usally turns out to be a loser later in life.
Ignorace is bliss because it makes someone believe that every deluded thought they think in their head is right ... It is usually the number one reason as to why people discriminate against others in all facets of life - look at racists, naziz, white supremacists - they're idiots.
Now, I am not saying that all of us in here are the brightest stars on the road - but, at least we have good taste in cars and we know it. The Z is a beautiful car. I've never gotten any insults about my car - mostly just stares and compliments. If I'm getting out of my car and someone is walking by, someone nearly always mentions something about my brakes or my rims and the car in general ...
Inferiority complexes usually lead to jealousy which leads to lashing out against others ... I can assure you, a 350Z is a better car that a lot of those out there for the same price.
I'd like to see when a Buick or a Mustang or a Camaro get put to the test with a BMW or a Porshe.
My friend drove a Corvette until recently - he just sold it because he bought a house. He's driven his fair share of sports cars in his time, has raced nationally, etc.
His father-in-law also races Corvettes all over the nation - both of them said, "now, this is a sports car!" when I let them drive it ... although I knew it myself, it was good to know that someone who owned a Viper thought the Z was a true sports car.
As most everyone said - it's not speed that matters ... it doesn't matter how quickly you can get through a multiple choice test if you don't use your brain ...
Happy driving! Hope that made people feel better about their Z's!

All of my azn girl friends are into anything that is a drop top.(miata, boxter, s2000) They probably like your friend's s2k because they see themselves driving it.
My friend once put it : "It's cute...such a girly car I'd love to have one!!!"
You seen 2Fast 2Furious??? Nuff said

Z bashers act like a buncha tired *** girls in a club. As soon as a pretty girl walks in that everyone wants to dance with...all the other girls get together and start exploiting the new girl that just walked in...
"that dress looks cheap"
"coach bag??? PShhhh she aint got Loui Vuitton like me!"
"I don't like her hair it's too straight and doesn't look natural"
"those ***** gotta be fake!"
" She's a hoe!"
I see the same on these car forums. Anything new that takes the lime light away...people are going to find its weak points to exploit them.
I just think its weak to STRONGLY criticize something subjective like a car's appearance, especially when a handful of people love how it looks. "IMHO the styling doesn't do it for me..." and that's how it should be kept.
Just curious, but the equal question would be, why do Z owners have to "defend" the car in a thread where somebody in a car that could have beaten a stock Z in a straight line? I just kind of roll my eyes when I see stuff like that, and generally don't get involved unless factually they have something totally wrong.
Fact is a 3800 SC Regal or Grand Prix can pretty easily be put into the mid 13s (and with a bit more money, 12s), so it is believable it could win a straight line race. Those cars have a lot of potential.
It is obvious they couldn't win an autocross or road course race, as well.
(GM Performance has, btw, recently released a Koni based suspension upgrade, but no way it would threaten a Z06 or anything else in a true sports car configuration)
On the other side, though, you can't take the wife and kids to the movies comfortably in the Z. Different cars for different purposes. To each their own.

Am I the only one that thinks that the movie The Fast and the Furious should have never came out? Granted, it was somewhat of an entertaining movie - I kinda liked it. But the whole subculture of "street racers" that it spawned is just ridiculous in my opinion. They gave a bad name to those that actually know what they are doing.
I mean, come on, a front-wheel driven Civic with a GT Wing taller than a skyscraper? What did he want to do, lift his front end up and take off? I hope he didn't think it made his car go faster... Or how about the neon green Mitsu Eclipse with the roof scoop? He must've had something in his trunk that he needed to keep cool.
Anywayz: my point to my rambling is that there is a scary amount of people out there that actually think driving these kinds of cars are cool. But then they run into one of us and realize a Z is so much better and more stylish than theirs that they naturally become haters. They start bashing the Z so they can feel better about what they're driving, I guess.
I'm not trying to say that the Z is the best car out there, but the guy driving that Buick had to have been lying to himself if he thought he was cool racing in it.
