I bought my Z as a "used car"...had about 4000K on it. Well I bought the extended warranty for 750.00 for the 5 year coverage. I ASSUMED it started when I bought the car...i just got the Nissan Extended Warranty book in the mail and it says the coverage started SEPT. 2002?!?!?!!? I never asked the guy if it started when I bought it but I assumed it would...I'll have to complain about this..i paid for 5 year coverage...not 4 year.
The warranty service begins as soon as the car is put into service (bought and driven off the lot). I assume your car was purchased and delivered in September of 2002. That's when the warranty begins.
Instead of 3 years of full coverage, you get 2 more years for the price of the extension. The extension adds directly onto the original warranty which began in September of 2002. You don't get 5 years from the date you purchased the used car. You get 2 more years added to the existing warranty, you see. That's why its called "extended". You basically net 1 more year of warranty than you would have had if you purchased the car brand new.

DOH...thats why i hate car shopping...the salespeople word stuff in ways that you think you're getting one thing when its actually something else. I'll still call them up and beotch about it...i dont think its right that they don't tell you straight out...instead they're like "oh yeah...you're coverd for 5 years now"...uh..sure sounded like COVERED FOR 5 YEARS NOW to me.
Yeah. They're tricky bastards, but that's their job. Its up to you to out-smart them at their own crappy game.
Look at it this way:
You still get 4 years of full coverage warranty on a car that's a year old. It would have 2 years left come September but instead you have 4. That's doubling what it would have been. Not too shabby for 750 bucks, assuming they honor the warranty...
