Smile Is high octane really necessary in a 350Z?

Sup!
So - the 08 Magnetic Black Z (sex) has about 750 miles on her - wifey and I took her on the road for a gentle break in cruise - (sex)
Filled her up w/premium. (paying for sex) The station started blaring music, releasing balloons, and a naked chick (SEX!!!) walked out, announcing:
"These people are paying EVEN MORE than you losers, they are buying
Premium!
I realise we need the good gas - ie, Shell, Sexxon, etc, the good stuff w/ detergents - but has anyone tried lower octane in their Z?
My love to you all!

The difference between a tank of regular vs. a full tank of premium is like $2-5, hardly a savings, and if you're worried about that... then you probably shouldn't have bought an 08 Z.

Anyways, there has been a few threads about this already... general consensus is that it can be done, but it's certainly not recommended to run the car hard with low octane fuel. My personal experience with this is when a friend used low octane gas in his G35 and started getting knocks after about the 6th or so tank.

I always put premium in mine, but not from any gas station in particular. Premium is premium; they all have to meet a certain government standard. I don't know if some are better than others, but I do know it most likely makes no difference.

you should be more concerned with buying a car that gets better mileage then worrying about the cost of premium gas, om average it's $.20 more a gal.

it's like all these idiots trading their cars in and paying $7,000 premiums on hybrids...unless you keep that car 6 plus years you just lost money

Yes, per your owner's manual, premium unleaded gasoline with a minimum 91 octane rating.

And as tired as people probably are of writing it/hearing it, the Z is a sports car,
do not buy one if you are worried about spending slightly more for premium gas.

Anything more than 91 is a waste ( unless your tuned for it) and less will work. My personal experiance is it works fine on 89 above 3000 feet, but runs rough below that.

Premium it is! Note to haters - I wasn't concerned about the cost. It's the naked chic and wifeys reaction to naked chick and the balloons and the owner of the gas station showing me his baby and announcing "This dope is paying for my precious babies college.."
It was all that stuff!

In my area it's cheeper for the 93 then the 91. and like rgeist554 said, it's a couple bucks difference for premium vs regular. So if price is a consern, get a prius.
