Default Should warranty have covered it?

Well I brought my car (06 base) in for a clicking rear axel. Told them about the TSB when I made the appointment. Got a call from them yesterday when the car was all set. The TSB only covers 03-05 model years.

With the 06 they were instructed to re-torque the hubs. It did fix the problem, no more clicking They said that there were no parts replaced so it was not a warrenty service and something about 1 year 15,000 from Nissan. I also told him about my extended warrenty and if that covered it. Just seemed odd that I had to pay out of pocket. Also is a bit odd as they replaced my engine about 2 months ago no questions asked for oil consumption.

I had the axel click done under warranty-twice. I told them about the problem, they were well aware of the 03-05 issue and didn't blink on my 06.

They should of looked it up, told you it was for an 03-05 model only, if you were going to have to pay for the service. Should of double checked imo.

if it is going to be a customer pay issue they have to call and get your permission to do the work prior to them doing it.

if they did not do that then they can not charge you for it. if they did then you agreed to it then you have to pay.

as for that being a non-warranted item i will not say 100% one way or the other, but if i was the one doing the repair i would not charge the customer. that sounds like a warranty item--unless there has been some work done the area in the past.

I did check before I brought it in, and they did check when they had it. QAllk we both found was a TSB for 03-05.

They didn't call before they did the work but it is only $100 dollars so I am not going to argue over it. I did drop it off at night and signed the envelpoe that you fill out a work reques and put your keys in. Maybe that authorized them to do the work. I didn't really check.

Just seemed odd they were so lenient on an $8000 warranty repair but so strict on one for $100.

A TSB does not indicate a warranty or free service item.

Why else would they issue it without the intent of fixing a factory defect? That means that anyone out of their warranty would have to pay out of pocket to fix a factory defect...Maybe i am misunderstanding this..

A TSB is instructions to fix a common problem. You're thinking a recall.

It usually does. My dealership(s) had no problem warrantying mine as soon as they realized it was the same problem as the 03-05s.

Let me see how this works. When you bring your car in for a TSB, they check it and etc. say that it is not covered, will they still charge you for taking a look at your car or no?

Yes. A TSB is a technical note to the service techs explaining how to fix a problem. It's not a recall. If the "fix" is under warranty, then you pay nothing.

And isn't the axel part of the drivetrain which would be under warrenty?

But do they charge you for looking at the car to see what the problem is? Like a diagnostic fee or something?

That's a gray area. My guess is their reasoning is that they did an adjustment. "Adjustments" are limited to the first 90 days. Like for rattles, squeeks, etc.
