Convertable?
Any word on a convertable model of the 350z? I love the look, but I'm thinking that if I'm gonna get a 2-seater, I'd like it to be a convertable. I believe one of the major car mags had some concept photos of a 350z convertable that looked pretty sweet, but I haven't heard anything else about it. Anyone got any info?

Jamie,
Welcome to the fourm.
We've talked a little about the spyder 350Z in the past, and I posted some images that you might find interesting...

So nothing official yet, just some concept drawings?
I'm really torn here. Like I said, I love the look of the hardtop, but there is just something about having a convertable.....

Seems to me one of the car mags said the convertable would be following shortly after the release - early 2003. I saw on freshalloy.com that it was supposed to come out in March or so, but I haven't heard any "official" confirmation.

according to my inside source with Nissan Japan....
The Spyder 350Z will be shown by Nissan in Tokyo in October/November area of this year and then it'll be in showrooms for Feb-March 2003.
It will be priced at just over $30,000 US and will be cheaper and faster than the s2000, it's closed priced competitor. It will also be quicker than the Porsche Boxster type S, the BMW Z3 and the Audi TT spyder. (more than likely quicker than other spyders as well)
Many car magazines including Motor Trend have photoshopped their own versions of what a convertible 350Z might look like, but thus far, NOTHING official or even spy-shot-quality has been seen online. I have my source trying to get me some photos, and he was able to get me pix of the 350Z before Nissan made them official so who knows, maybe he'll get lucky again.
I also have him looking into the 350ZR right now, more on that when I hear about it.
I'll post images as quickly as I get them.

Well, the base is just $26,270, and the Enthusiast is only $28,250, so add $3,000 = $29270 to $31250. Don't see a problem with it starting around $30K. Be nice if it was only a $2k premium, but right now I'm thinking I'll wait for the convertable.

I'm just telling you guys what I was told. They are aiming at the s2000 and the s2000 retails for $32,400 or something like that. They want it cheaper than the s2000 so they effectively take away that market from Honda. Well, maybe not take it away, but put a serious dent in their numbers.
No clue if the spyder will have leather etc... who knows? Maybe they'll aim for the $32,000 mark, that's still cheaper than Honda.
I HIGHLY doubt that it'll be released with a sticker price higher than the s2000 from what I have been told regarding Nissan's reasoning for releasing a spyder in the first place. I could be wrong, but all common sense points to them not raising the price. After all, high prices are what lead to the death of the North American sports car market back in 96.
Well, that and those damn SUV's.
