Yes, black smoke= fuel. Running rich, Check your o2 sensors.
Do you get on it much that often? If not, it could be carbon which builds up over time if you dont blow it out every now and then(get on it). Eventually after getting on it real good for a few times until the carbon is blown out it should stop. Unless of course something is causing it to run rich.
I say its fuel. Just check your fuel related parts.

Ive owned my car since 2003 and i bet i have redlined it less than a hundred times TOTAL. Some folks on here redline theirs a hundred times in a month.
Checked the oil and its maybe a half quart low but its been about 4K miles ince the last oil change. The color of smoke appeared black but to be honest that was just a very quick glance out of the rearview mirror.

I was thinking that too. No i dont get on it that often...maybe redlined it a month or so ago? I do a lot of stop and go driving in heavy traffic. Could be carbon buildup. Lots of folks ahve posted some good tips...i'll check into them all.
Thanks guys.

sounds like you do it a lot more often than you claim. as for the rosetta stone thing, i find that is a great tool to learn new languages. i do speak two fluently (engish, german). BTW, if you are going to try and point out flaws with someone, i would be sure you use spell check first. kind of defeats your whole intention.

Whatever *****. Go get laid or something...your panties sound like they are all wadded up. You sound a little too "****" if you get my drift.
You should begin sentences with capital letters by the way. =)

Were you granny shifting, not double clutching like you oughtta by any chance?
Seriously though, since you just got your oil changed, I would look for spillage on the engine, I think that would probably be it like WTX350Z said.

Not that I really care, it's just funny when people are hypocrites.

The Owner's Manual ( you read it, right?) suggests you not exceed 90 in 3rd gear.

Well tonight im on the interstate "Playing with" a BMW 330 coupe and i wound 4th gear all the way out and when i was looking in my rearview to see by how much i was pulling away from the Bimmer, i noticed black smoke coming out the back. Not a lot, but enough to see and smell.
Other than that, the car runs great....got 60K miles on it and actually its running (speedwise) as good as it ever has. Just curious if anyone else has noticed the smoking.

Now I heard that the 09 BMWs will have a remote frequency control system that makes the passing car's SES light come on just about the time they blow pass them, but this is just rumor.
