Default To mod the Z or upgrade to a GTR, what to do...

Right now there are about three things that I could do with my Z, and I mainly just want to get some other opinions on the matter.

So I bought my 2006 grand touring z (fully loaded) used about two years ago, an amazing find at the time for what was an incredibly low price of about 32k. This saved me about 10k over what I would have paid for it new. It's been an amazing car and I still absolutely love it (the way it drives is just perfect IMO), however coming from a 02 trans-am ws6, I can't help but desire more power.

So what I came to after much research is if I want to keep my Z and get more power out of it, I can spend about 10k on it and get a top quality HKS supercharger installed, which should be reliable and good for about 380RWHP. I am quite sure that would suit my desire for more power quite well.

However I also noticed how the Z's resale seems like it will plummet for me in the next few years, and since I got my Z for so little this may be the perfect time to sell my Z for what should be a good 27k or so. With this I will receive a good minimal loss and should need about 40k tops to upgrade to a GTR (which I was completely sold on when I watched the top gear episode when it is taken around the track). Since I was planning on just spending over 10k my Z an additional 30k for the GTR seems like it would be much better money spent in the long run for what should be a better car.

So basically what should I do? I was thinking about waiting a year for the GTR to start showing up used but yet I also have a feeling that this car will have great resale value with it rarity and high desire (am I likely right or wrong about this?).

A lot to think about...

Not to be a jerk but my local dealership is selling 08's for 27K.

The S/C mod would be cheaper than a GT-R, unless you got some cash for a nice down payment...I would buy the GT-R. My 2 cents.

Its a 2006 GT, it'll sell for 25k-27k private.. 23-25 dealership, unless you can haggle them for the GTR. I'd do the GTR if i had the money. All that power with a warranty...

You will be hard pressed to find a used GTR within the next year.

You can also go FI with your Z for less than 10k. All depends if you buy new or used parts, and if you dont plan on building the motor. Since I love my Z, I would do a TT setup in the future. But if your set on getting rid of it, keep the Z for another year and dont mod it, save money aside for a down payment for the GTR then either trade the Z in on it, or sell privately.

Aside from what you think you can get from your current Z car, can you realistically afford the payments, maint., insurance & gas for the GT-R????

you do know that you will be paying ABOVE sticker on a gt-r right? the first 5 around here sold for 110-120k. that is insane.... upgrade your z exactly how you want it. that will be another 20k or so. dont pay a **** load of extra money just to have the car. you will lose ALL of it as soon as they start stocking them at dealerships.

1. You will have a hard time finding a GT-R
2. If you do find one expect to pay a nice premium
3. Never buy a first year car

I would wait and save money and buy a second year car once all the bugs have been fixed.

This shoudlnt even be a debate. I bet you never get a GT-R or any car for 70-80k.

People who buy GTR's usually come from a Porche, AMG's or M3/M5's.

Well money isn't an issue for me. For example I have more money than my sister already and she recently just upgraded from her 325ci to a CLS550 and payed over 50g after selling her bimmer in the process. I think that I would rather have a GTR for that kind of money, and ironically enough I would save money compared to her upgrade.

$30K in your pocket is a mod that you should love even more.
In the end it really depends on how you feel about your Z. Do you still enjoy looking at it, driving it, owning it? If it is a yes to all of those, then keep the Z. Mod it little by little and have fun with it.

If you can comfortable afford the GTR, I don't see why you are even questioning this?? The GTR would be an amazing vehicle for many years/decades. Or you can keep your Z and turbo it, but you still have just the Z, an amazing car but no GTR.

Ah okay, didn't see the whole money is not an issue comment.
Then if money is not an issue, buy the GTR.

Great Quote. This post is asinine. If you have the money, buy the toy. Do you rent? Why not buy a house? Go to a foreclosure sale and take advantage of someone else's misfortune (read: predatory lending). It sounds like your sister is a genius. You should probably take her to the dealership so she can negotiate the purchase of your 2010 Gt-r. There are officially 75k (or more) reasons to spend the money on your future security, instead of burning it into a vehicle which will depreciate sharply in the next 5-10 years.
Without even understanding your liquidity or credit situation I would guess you're not ready for the purchase of a $100k auto.

If you say no to either question your post is moot -

1. do you have 1m in the bank, cash?

2. do you pay taxes on $250k in income/ year?

GTR, modding the Z very heavily to the point of the GTR you won't enjoy it. Too many headaches
