Default Lost Keys... HUGE problem!

So my dumb *** drunk friend lost my keys. I bought it used and was only given one.

We were at a bar and he had to go to my car. In the process he lost the key and has NO IDDEA where. I come to terms that he's a ****in idiot and they are gone. I searched the parking lot for 3 hours and traced what drunken steps he could remember.

NOW... I'm trying to get another key made and it's not enough that it usualy cost like $200. It seems that my car doesn't have a key code associated with it. It def. has transponder but they guy at nissan said It is rare but sometimes when the car comes off the truck the people receiving the car forget to put the keycode in the paperwork.

I had nissan look into it and two other locksmiths. none of them can find a keycode. they are going to charge $350 to take stuff apart and decifer the keycode. anyone have any ideas before I let them rip apart my car and rape me for a 350 dollar key?

I wouldn't worry about it, your friend's paying for it.

I'd double check with another dealership before forking over 350. And your friend should offer to pay for this...if he doesn't, not much of a friend IMO.

you could tell them to go ahead and program the key, and install the system yourself

no one was drinking and driving. He had to get his cigarettes from my car. I was driving. I wasn't drinking.

Wouldn't it be Nissan's fault for not retaining the key code when the car was shipped? I wouldn't pay for the service to decipher the code.

They can search it via VIN. We do it here all the time...

Maybe you should call another dealer.

Nothing says they have to.

Problem with people these days, wanting to place the blame on others.

A rare situation? I'm sure tons of people are drunk and lose keys daily. Key codes are done by VIN. They are making money off of you because you probably seem like you're made of money. Money; a dealers best friend.

No, I know they can. I work at a dealership. They get your VIN and use a master key that fits and the computer automatically cuts it. Then, they program it. They don't "need" to tear crap apart. They probably just think you will pay for it to get done. They do get paid from Nissan to touch a car that is under warranty you know.

funny you should say that because i feel that dealers and mechanics do think that when i try to get a price. As soon as I say it's for a 350z i feel the price goes up...

i had a guy quote me 300 to INSTALL a cat back exhaust. This was after he commented on my pirelli tires. I have a nice car with nice parts on it but I'm cetainly not made of money and I NEVER give off that type of vibe.

so ya that's why i wanted to ask you guys. you think there trying to screw me??? i talked to two locksmiths and one nissan dealer. They all said the same thing about there not being a key code for my vin. I was buying it at first but now I'm thinking they could all be in on it. I hate dealers. they ALWAYS try to screw you. I'm gonna call a couple DEALERS and see what they say.

Call dealers in other locations. Maybe 20 minutes away. Give them your VIN. Locksmiths aren't too up-to-date unless it's a legit place that does alot of automotive work. Your VIN definitely pulls something up. It is programmed from the factory that way.

I'm sure he has his friend paying for it. Unless his friend is bigger and can kick his ***.

Fill us in on what the other dealers say.
