How many miles is too many?
This thread really goes out to anyone who has owned a 350z for quite some time. Mostly the 03 owners.
How many miles is too many?
When have you had mechanical problems from everyday driving? (Od. reading).
I want to purchase a 350, but I do not want to get one with "too many" miles. I can't afford to buy one brand new.
Anyone have a z w/ over 100k miles? haha any problems?
The zs that I'm looking at range anywhere from 15k miles to 49k. I'm really reluctant to purchase anything near 49k. I'm afraid I'll run into problems much sooner than desired.
Thanks

if the car has been reasonable well (not perfectly) maintained, 49,000 miles is not a problem. In fact, that strikes me as being relatively low.
Big deal is to (1) ask for maintenance records and (2) have Z checked out by mechanic you pay & trust.

I had an 03 and put about 30k on it. When I traded it in it had 65k on it. The only problems I had with it was tires, needed new ones because they were bald. Struts were starting to go, car was lowered on Hotchkis springs for almost the entire 30k that I owned it. It also needed strut bar endlinks, but I had hotchkis sway bars on med front, full stiff rear. It was actually the wrong setup for the street, I would prefer med/med, but what you gonna do.
My car took a beating. I drove it hard a lot. Lots of drifting, lots of drag racing, never really had a problem. I did get the tranny replace per the tranny recall, and I replaced the passenger side window motor like a lot of other Z's. Nothing crazy though.
Personally, I shouldve never traded it in. I miss it, but then again, perhaps thats why I just bought another one.

I bought mine new in 03 with 21 miles on it - now have 110k + miles on it. I've had small issues here and there which were prevalent with 03's but no major mechanical issues to speak of. I know a lot of 03's have had horrible luck with tranny issues however I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
I guess if it’s taken care of correctly then barring any manufacture defects it should be fine.

What is with people on this form being afraid of a car with..say...50,000 miles on it and thinking it is going to fall apart? Most engines are just getting seated in at that point. Sure little wear and tear things like brake pads, tires, hoses, and seals will go but the major compoents might as still be considered new. I had a 82 landcruiser till it turned over 280,000 miles and worked just fine. There are a ton of other japaneese cars with way over 200,000 on them running strong. Some of these people (including me) can't understand why people would even think a car with 40k miles on it would be high. Hydrodynamic lubrication is a very good thing!
Yeah i bought my car with 48k on it and now i have 95k. Its runs just as good, or actually better than when i first got it. Its all about maintaining the car and it will last forever.
I have an 03, but its so low mileage that most ppl here will vomit.
My mom however has a 2004 FX35...Dad refuses to run premium, it has ~80K on it if I'm not mistaken, with no issues at all....well except the CD Changer went out....but motor-wise its solid as a rock. (same VQ35 as we have).

i track the crap-o-la out of my car........autoX events nearly every month and drift event, 1 every two months or so and im at 70K and not a hint of a problem....
the car can take it........buying one with those kinda miles 15K-49K is really really good, especially if it was owned by a old guy or just someone that drove it and never tracked it....added to it, etc...

Keep in mind that driving your engine under light load all of its life is not nessesarily a good thing for it. The rod and bearings don't care much and the heads need the heat to keep the depoits burnt off. An analogy is cleaning you oven, you turn up the heat.
Bought my 03 with 45k miles and im at 82k now. Only "issue" ive noticed is the stock struts really start taking a toll at around 70k. Not an issue if you plan on upgrading to anything aftermarket.
As long as the car was maintained properly and you take care of it just as well you wont have issues.
