Cool 2005 z vs 2007 z

In a couple of weeks I will be buying a 2005 6speed silver 350z touring.I learned almost everything I know about these cars from these forums so thank you for that.My question is how would a 2005 6speed do against a 2007 automatic touring in a straight line race? (I know there not drag cars and are more adapt for auto x).I know the 07s have the newer version engines and are supposed to be all around better cars than the previous models, but I still would like to get a good idea on where I would stand against the newer models. Thanks for your time guys I look forward to joining the z family.

Stock for stock, a 2005 is slower no matter the transmission. Add a few mods to the 05 and you should hold your own.

My stock 05 (Stock HP and non-stock street tires) eeked out a 13.997 1/4 mile. (On one of florida's hot summer days.)

Below is the fastest stock 07 auto time I could find...

20. AJcool2 ------------------------04 Tour Auto 13.852@100.25mph 2.127 60ft

I think even with a few bolt ons the 05 would lose to an 07

edit: ^^ that seems to be the only auto there. So it might not be enough data to merit the autos as 13.8 cars.

but either way i think the 07 is the better choice

There is one other one on the list..

22. Accordaleer --------------------07 Tour Auto 13.872@101.xxmph x.xxx 60ft

Since we are getting close to seeing the 09 models, I would hope that any 07 auto owner, that beat that (13.852) time, might have shared with the rest of by now.

For this reason, I think most (not all) stock 07 autos will be a little slower than 13.8.

Pretty much. DomZ ran a mid-13 with his 5AT 03. The power is there for Zs (as evidenced by 100MPH+ traps), it's just launching them that's a major PITA.

I can't say about the auto's. But I can give you a comparison kinda. My 06' Z (which has the rev-up engine) with test pipes and y-pipe ran a 13.54 I believe in the 1/4 mile. My 07' Nismo Z ran a 13.51 the first time I took it to the track...STOCK. I'm not sure how true it is, but I've heard that the regular 07-08' Z's are faster in the 1/4 than the Nismo due to the Nismo creating downforce. I've also heard of a bone stock 07' Z run 13.1 and 12.9 on DR's. Stock for stock my 2006 dynoed 252rwhp my 2007 dynoed 270.2rwhp.

Same car stock vs stock the AUTO will win in a straight line, only due to the gearing and not clutching. You loose some power not to mention time shifting/clutching. with an 05 vs an 07 less u got massive power mods, 07 auto is owning you!!

Are you mental, I can shift just as fast if not faster than an Auto plus I can launch it better.

The 2007 weighs +120lbs more than 2005, and 2005 has 5% more torque than 2007. Zero-to-60, 2005 wins.

hey im not going to argue...but if stick was so faster then the sports cars wouldn't have paddle shifting. They would of just kept it stick with a foot clutch!

0-60 is for magazine racers.

1/4 mile, HR wins.

Paddle shifting also isn't a true automatic. They still have clutches (for the most part), not garbage-*** torque converters.

Another reason behind paddle shifters is because you don't ever have to remove your hand from the steering wheel, which is a HUGE perk in road racing.

My350Z.com is full of fial today.
