seat dynos are incredibly inaccurate... of course the mustang is going to feel more powerful.... the engine has a lot more torque which is what you feel.... at the drag strip it's absolutely a drivers race.... (this is comparing to the older 350's) The HR has no problems walking a new mustang GT.

Very interesting guys, I appreciate the feedback. Now if I can just get this damn house built and free up some cash for mods I'll be in business.

Mustangs' torque is more of a "feel faster" type of placebo. IMO at least.

It will outhandle it, but I think the GT has the upper hand stock vs stock in a straight line. If the GT has a reflash, watch out. The reflash on a GT does ALOT for it.

I had suspension on my GT to include springs, adj. sways etx, and I still hated the "live" rear axle. It was my first and maybe the last.

FYI: I had a 06 GT: Airaid intake, Bamachips reflash, Hellwig adj sways, Roush springs, stodck 18s, Saleen short throw, Raptor shift light, etx.

My brother has a modified V6. Its really nice with the reflash for what it is.

The funny thing is that the V6 has forged pistons and the GT has cast....

John127: What you're talking about is q-u-a-l-i-t-y craftsmanship, which gre-
atly improves road feel, giving the driver a SPECIAL sensation of being in control! Aha!, got you, right?! Yeah! THAT'S what got me, too! IF I'da wanted
a muscle car, I'da gotten me one! Instead, I got me a precision machine that's also reliable ('xept for the power window glitch, the gas latch thingy & the hatch door struts fail). Welcome to "Zee" fever, dude! Extra benefit: I can
squeeze 2 weeks out of a tankful. NOT bad for a sports coupe!

im also pretty new to this forum, and i am contemplating between the mustang and the z

btw, what basic mods can you do to your Z to make it faster (straight line, wise)
i know the mustang responds extremely well to mods; ive seen some that were n/a and had 350rwhp

however, the biggest dilemma is the Z has 2 seats

nah you're not in the minority, the S197 body style is pretty sick, but from what i have read and seen(youtube and streetfire for what its worth) its a drivers race. GT's definitely look great though, I love my Z as much as the next owner does his/hers, but nothing can match the ground thumping sound of an American V8.

ive owned the GT and now a 07 Z... i also have a 67gt, 71 mach1 so i was born into stangs... BUT i must say, i have owned 05 06 and 07 mustang GTs. drag strip, and top end. Even an 05 w/ihe. The yhave alot more room, BUT why oh why, when your looking for performance, wouldnt u choose the car that was faster, higher topend, cornered far better, and get this, gets WAY better mpg's (mine anyway).

Very true, I guess I've suffered from the bigger is better syndrome, meaning cubic inches. Also never truly paid that much attention to how the car actually handles until I had a lowered stang and then the corvette.
Its starting to seem like you can mod a Z out just as easily as a mustang am I right? Its going to run 4-6k for any forced induction for either car. Intakes seem to be about the same prices as well. Exhaust seems a little more expensive.
Is a Z going to respond to mods the same as a mustang, or is it going to take F/I to REALLY see and feel the difference?

The stang wil ltake to bolt ons alot better. The Z will take FI and anything thatll increase HP. Remember the Z is lighter, In all my track races Ive been taken off the line by the GT, then at about the 1/8 point im alittle ahead. Id say my average 1/4 is 13.4ish, my fastest being a 13.32 and slowest being a 13.8. Ive become consistant. I take the torque gets the stang off the line, but high rev better gearing and less weight get the z going.

And as illegal as it may be, on interstate pulls ive had no bolted GT take me. The only ones that have were a Shelby GT500 (duh), a turbo saleen (06) and a fully bolted, reflashed and sprayed 05 GT.

Id say, lb for lb on the FI, the z will do better, modded motor to motor, the v8 will take it.

Welcome to the Z car culture. It's great seeing someone with an open mind comparing two very different cars which have insanely loyal followers.

It's definitely nice to see someone with such an open mind coming onto the forums. It's rare to have even senior members with open minds, let alone new ones. Congratulations on your new Z; I'm sure you'll find that with the proper additions, you'll have a formidable contender.

Congrats on your new Z. I am not a big fan of V8's, but have a ton of respect due to the shear power they can produce.

Yeah, I know many will tell you that V8's are so much bigger than the 3.5L that the Z comes in, but that doesn't mean that all cars have to put a 3.5L in all their muscle car. Correct me if I am wrong, but they also aren't too bad on gas milage, too.

When i bought my Z it was between a new GT and the Z, well the Z won cause i like hitting the track/autocross and i didn't need back seats.

Yea, I always got 20-22 on my GT when I kept my foot out of it. I'm at 22.7 right now on my first full tank in the Z, so they are pretty similar.

In regard to the GT being way roomier (I'm not saying it isn't... it definitely is) there's just something about the way they laid out the hood/roof/windshield that's messed up. I recently drove my friends GTcs and felt like my field of vision was much more restricted than the Zs. The giant scoop on the hood doesn't help either.
