Default People with a billion mods...

Alright so this post is regarding to all those people that you see either trying to sell their or have their car and are showing it off with all their mods. They say things like "over $100,000 spent in mods" and stuff like that....

In my opinion you must be really out of your mind to spend over that much in mods for the Z. I mean the 350z is a nice car and all and i love it but with that much money do you kno what other cars you could buy with that? if u spend around maybe 5 grand or at most most 10 grand i think that should be ok but over 20 grand or even more there are so much more options...

Think about it you buy a new z for maybe 26-30 or a used take 20 grand and then invest a sh**load in it? You could buy a Porsche GT3 for 120 grand that prolly has all the performance upgrades and stuff that you were lookin for. Apart from how much it takes to keep mantain Porsches i much rather have a Porsche than spend over 100 grand on mods. Now if you just really really love the Z and want no other car, than i guess thats a diffenrt story but i was wondering why wouldnt you just want to buy a higher ends sports car instead of investing so much money in a Z?

This is exactly what made me get the Z. I'd put thousands of $$ on my focus. Why not just buy a car thats expensive as heck but at least I wont have to waste $ to make it decent.

Enter the GT 350z.

cuz the build is sometimes more important to the beholder.

also, his/her money, his/her enjoyment.

like all the guys above said "IT'S FUN TO BUILD" that's one of the reason for me, and the other reason. It's pretty much the only thing that keeps me motivated to go to work, so I could get paid and so I can buy the parts that I want to put it on my Z

Id rather have a fast modified car thats been done to my liking and style, than a fast stock car that anybody can go out an buy. $20K + into a build gets you acceleration only the world's exotic cars can provide, most people just dont know how awesome it is to pull from 100-150mph faster than from 60-100mph stock.

Personalization vs. reliability I guess. You can get a 100% stock C6 vette that will outperform just about any modded Z short of built FI setups, for comparable $, and with a factory warranty. But you're still driving a chevrolet that looks just like all the other ones on the road.

Bottom line, if it doesn't make sense to you, don't do it.

Bc you can make a Z ridicuously fast without spending 100k? or even close to that ridiculous amount of money? On youtube theres a JWT-TT Z beating a lambo, and the outside looked stock. I dont think he put 100k into that car and it beat a gallardo. Why wouldnt you build a Z is a better question.

If you have a Porsche... You'd be paying more for mods from RUF, etc.

Like others have said, "It's building that makes it fun". Some of us actually see modifying as a hobby and enjoy it. Car shows are fun. Tracking is fun. 1/4 mile is fun. Whatever floats one's boat. All 3 events are hobbies and enjoyable to someone in one sense or another. Building, having something to tinker with on the weekends, and discovery are what makes it fun. To see what you can put together with your own 2 hands. No offense to the OP, but I imagine he sees a car as nothing more than transportation. I could be wrong, but this is my guess....

its fun like everyone said and besides not everyone puts $40k into their car at once... it takes time and over the years it adds up!

Fun...know what else is fun?

Beating up on Porsche's and C5/C6 Vettes that cost 2-4X what your Z costs in an Autox. Want to see em squirm? show em its an automatic! ahhh hahahahaha

For many the fun is worth the $...I'm one of them, however my wife isn't.

it starts someware and in just goes up

honda + 4kmods > 350z + 30kmods > XXX + yyy mods

its just as you get older you can afford better things. Plus modding is fun as hell, and if you dont understand it, then we dont expect you too.

a few words come to mind that explain this phenomenon.

hobby, fun, accomplishment, friends, beer, faster, happy, unique, interesting, learning... just to name a few

now those are some good words

on the other hand, there are people who dont even want to change their own oil, is that you OP?

Most Z owners can't or prefer not to afford a Porsche 911.. Bottom line. Now for example with the Z u can slowly get to porsche speed when money and time permits.. I own a Z and just drove a 911 turbo last week and while the porsche was a freakin blast and the fastes car i've ever driven when i got back in lightly modified Z i felt at home again.. Sure not the blistering acceleration but other than spending about 70K for a used Porsche (a 100,00 car is still 100,00 car to repair) i think i did ok for under 20K. BTW the porsche 911 or maybe a carrera S are the only Porsche's i wouldnt bang gears with. Any other porsche is weaksauce IMO..

Well in a lot of cases people really like the looks of the Z. So instead of going out and buying a $100,000 stock supercar, you can go get a $30,000 Z....put $20,000-$30,000 into it and smoke the $100,000 car while still having the looks of the Z.
Plus customization is always great. If you buy a stock Porsche....500 other old rich douschebags will have the exact same car. Modding a Z will give you a car that NO ONE else has.
