i reset the trip meter once the tank is full, then usually drive till the light comes on (i believe theres a 20 mile reserve). let me rephrase the question. How many miles can you get from a full tank to the fuel light coming on on avg? for me its 250-280 with a few wot's and normal city driving. i try coasting at 2-3k.

Your light comes on much sooner that 20 gallons (more like 15 or so). I told you how to correctly check mpg... Up to you if you choose to do it, or continue this way.

First week I had my car, I got about 350 on roughly 17 gallons. And that was stupid 87 octane the dealership filled it up with. half city and half highway driving.

The trip computer is always too high.

I always figure the old school way. Miles traveled divided by gallons input @ fill-up = MPG.

Usually the computer is about .5 to 1 mile more than actual MPG.

When I drive it easy; I get 19 in city. Driving hard; about 16.5.

From full to fuel light, I would consider 350 very good for my mix city and highway but I usually have to fill up at 320 miles. I'm pretty sure 400 is attainable with lots of highway and granny driving.

yea the gas empty light, woops i meant 20 miles. so most of you get 320-350 miles/tank. So i'm getting roughly 2/3's that, what might be the issue? Can a mod move this to maintenance and repair please?

my fuel light comes on at about 49 miles till empty which is about 2 gallons by mileage. just gased up this afternoon, put in 16.92 gallons, drove 402 miles, average mpg was 23.75. computer was indicating 24.1 mpg, and if it's a 20-gallon tank, then i had 3 gallons left in it.

I figure the old school way also. I tend not to trust the on board gauge/computer.
Just as an FYI, I track my mileage etc. on www.fuelly.com . If you click on there, go to "Browse Vehicles", then go to "Nissan 350Z". I'm listed as "Dancon52" with a 2005 Roadster. You can compare your Z with others. It tracks mileage by the tankful or overall.
I've been tracking my daily driver since new. Look on Dodge Charger and again I'm listed as dancon52 with a 2008 model with 3.5 V6.

I love these threads...

Boosted with lowered compression and I still pull 20 mpg in mixed driving... even seen 24+ on longer road trips.

I think that needs to be taught in school, even though it should be common sense.

Because your onboard computer calculates mileage even when you are stopped at a red light. Reset it when you fill up and it will read a little different but it still will not be as accurate as dividing your miles by gallons used.

Default 19.6

just checked for the heck of it on the way home tonight. Gave up driving 'easy' a few weeks ago....I guess I got used to the gas prices....back to normal...

Most of it is stop and go driving.
