Default 2003 vs. 2004 - Big Problem!

OK here's my problem. I have been getting screwed over by Nissan for the last 2 months. I ordered my 03 350Z in the beginning of April. The dealer never got to place my order because of car allocation issues. I still don't have my car. I have finally found a Silverstone Enth. just like I ordered. Here's the deal I have a Silverstone Enth. 2004 coming sometime this year (dealer can't tell me when, no VIN) This car I have a price of $28,288 the only options I have are the Aero package.

This new dealer that has the 2003 has Aero, Splash, Trunk mats, floor mats. And is offering $27,980.

The difference is $308.

Here's the dilema. I am leary of pulling the trigger on the 03 since the value is already going down, since the 04's are going to be out at the end of the month. And since the depreciation value of the 2003 will drop about say $2000 - $1500 less then the 2004 the minute I buy the car. Should I take the car for say $27,300 so that the value of the trade off would be worth it and I would basically be breaking even on the 2004 and the 2003. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks

I be confused, the 2003 has more options, less money, available now, and will depreciate less when it leaves the lot.

the 04 has a power nav door(not sure if this applies to cars without nav.) and knee pads(Im sure they will be available aftermarket, japanparts already sells them for rhd) oh and they are prewired for XM radio.

Id be takin the 03...

Whichever I buy, I'd be buying it from the new dealer. If you plan on keeping it, might as well get the 03. if you think you might sell it in the nearer future, get the 04. I'd be tempted to go for the deal on the 03 myself.

Go 03. Sounds like a much better deal.

What about say the tradein value, say 5 years down the road? The difference in price between the 2 cars would roughly be $1500. So do I take the trade off in price or do I wait. I think that says what I am trying to say.

wait, why would 03 depreciation be less, I mean granted the dollar drop is less, when in 2010 you want to sell the car, you can sell the 04 for more than 03, right?

Thats my point. Do I take the 03 and lose the value of the 04 when comes time to trade in.

well, it seems like you have your mind set on the '04. guess the only thing now is the wait for the '04's to come in. if it were me, i'd go to the '03 so i can drive it asap. as for the trade-in value, i guess there would be a difference b/t a 03 vs 04, but overall you're look at approx. $1200 to have the car now.

That's the only factor do I wait probably 2 months to get the car and probably get it at the end of September at the earliest (NO VIN yet) or get the car now and drive it for 2 months. If the 04's don't come in until September i would have roughly (maybe) 1 month of drive time before it starts snowing here in Wisconsin. November is snow time and no Z.

in 5 years will 1500$ matter? and for that 1500 you get to have them for an extra few months, no worrying if its really ordered ect.

One other consideration: With all the problems people seemed to have had with the '03's such as grease on window, tranny issues, driver's seat rocking, etc. the '04's may well have solved these problems.

I bought my 2003 in June, received it in July, after debating on waiting for the 2004s. I don't regret it a bit. I plan to keep it a good while.

The 2004's motorized navigator door might be nice, but I could care less about the kneepads.

I say go for the 2003—but either way you get a Z!

none of those "problems" are addressed specificly to the 04, they are all fixed as the solutions are found, it is simply not smart thinking to suppose that they would continue to put out problem cars(which they will have to fix eventually) just to wait for a new year. a new "year" really consists of little more than a different vin number, besides that they did some cosmetic changes like the knee pad, motorized door, new color, and XM radio, thats the sorta thing they wait for a new year. as they will not be going back to the 03 models and having to put these new features into it.

If you get the '03 now, when you sell it you will have a low mileage '03 as opposed to a high mileage '04, given the same number of miles on either car, which will make up for some of the depreciation.

Default Pull that trigger man!

You have been getting tooled for months by this other dealership...if you plan on keeping the car awhile, the year difference wont be a big deal. Go haggle on the price of the '03...get it as low as you can and pull the trigger man!

You will be glad when you do...geez you sound like me (I took forever to buy my Z), you will be so happy once you get it. Besides those few extra warm months of driving weather will be worth a couple hundred.

Ares,

So what your saying, if I bought my '03 Z in July, then in theory I should have less problems with tranny's, etc. than earlier produced '03's. Of course, if that's true, it seems they would have fixed a simple problem like the window streaking by now. Fortunately, after only 1300 miles, that's been my only issue which is no big deal but if your statement is true, it seems silly its still going on.

From SE Wisconsin, eh? I am too. I hope you didn't buy from the dealership at S. 27th St and Grange... their customer service could use a lot of work.
