$39?!

I had a nail once also and I took it to the local Mexicans. They asked me whether I wanted plug or patch, I told them patch and they did it for 7 bucks. No problem since.

+1 for the Mexicans.

I also took it to the local Mexicans once. They also asked me whether I wanted plug or patch, I also told them patch and they did it for 10$. Had a tire blow out three weeks after they patched it.

-1 for the Mexicans.

Same with my dad's FX, which was a victim of two nails - again, both patched and not plugged. One of the Michelins on my Z has a patch too, it's a fail-safe method of fixing a tire.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with a plug, as long as it's done correctly.

Also, OP... If patched, make sure the tire gets rebalanced.

Screwed either way. A tire shop will "fix" it for you, and destroy your rims, or damage your tps sensor in the process. Buy a new tire, and the tire shop will
destroy your rims, or damage your tps sensor in the process.
Good luck, and take your time in choosing a tire shop.

Does plugging it weaken the tire??
I would not leave it in as over time it will be driven inward.

From what I gather, the major advantage of a patch is that when you take the tire off the rim you get to inspect the inside of the tire for damage, which can occur if you run the tire on low pressure. Some also recommend a patch over a plug if the nail is really going in at a steep angle. Since you have no loss of tire pressure and the nail looks pretty perpendicular, a plug may well work for you.

I also learned that there was a time when plugs did _not_ work on radial tires and patches were the preferred method of repair, thus the beginning of the patch, don't plug maxim, but "now we plugs that are designed to repair radial tires and are self-vulcanizing. That is to say after they heat up from driving, the 'melt' into the tire and become one piece."

Just from looking at the picture, the nail looks to be in the "meat" of the tire. This would be a reason why are not recieving any air loss. You can probably just take the nail out with some pliers and should be on your merry way

I would recommend patching it not plugging it. When you use a patch it is as though there were no nail. If you you plug it then it is not as safe.

Hey just to update everyone, I went to my normal gas station/oil change/garage and they plugged it for free. It took a couple minutes and I gave the guy $5. Holding up fine.
