I want to go on record and talk about the job that Mike Mahaffey, Jonathon Wilson, Frank, Clint and the AAM techs did on my car! I just got back today from there and I am so satisfied with the work and customer service I got from Altered Atmosphere! I have been down on 3 different occaisions to have different work done! Today I had a Blitz SBC controller and a Greddy oil catch can installed. And I had Mike retune my car do to me installing a AAM true dual 3" exhaust! He was able to tune my stock blocked , Greddy twin turbo, 2006 GT z to 456.60 RWHP at 9lbs of boost! I drove the car the 80 mile trip home and the car feels awesome! I have read several threads on here with people (most are not/nor have they ever been AAM customers) bashing Altered Atmosphere for different reasons! I have gotten to know the guys down there on more than just a business level! They take thier job and thier reputation seriously! Mike worked around my tough work schedule to even get the car in today!! He was supposed to be off today! He knows his zhit when it comes to tuning cars!!!! I agree that problems can surface! But thats a chance we all take when we start pushing the kind of numbers I am! My dad has had me into old muscle cars for years now! And one thing he has preached to my mom and I is you have to pay to play! It was a hard desicion to drop the kind of money in to an upgrade like this! But with about 700 miles total on my Greddy kit it still feels strong and perfect! I must say I do try and baby the car (except on occasion). I see you have Forged Performance on your blog! I assume you had them do your install? Do you not think that they have made mistakes and had angry clients? But I personally will never put down a shop that I have never personally dealt with! I have more respect for these companies than that! Thats why I wanted to post this thread about AAM! Thanks, for your input, Robert

 

most shops usually have customers that are initially happy. good shops keep them happy even if something goes wrong. that was what i was trying to point.

 

I will not bash AAM anymore but Frank there ace mechaic has opened his own shop.

 

Yeah I just found out today when I went down! That sucks, Frank is the most knowledgable tech I have ever met!

 

456whp is A LOT of power for a VQ35DE. If it can take and and be reliable, more power to you but i would stay away from 9 psi daily.

Im guessing you have low boost setting so i would recommend staying there as much as possible.

Your absolutly right! I do have a lower boost setting for normal driving! But if I ever need it I know its there! I was warned not to keep it there by Mike! But he knew I wanted crazy power numbers! I might only put it at 9 psi if and when I get it back down to Mason Dixon dragway! Or to terrerize some of the local brusers Thanks, Robert

In my own business, I find that it is how we deal with the inevitable problems that really speaks to our customer service. Smooth encounters and easy transactions make anyone look good.

Having said that, it is nice to speak up for any business that you feel is doing well by you. Most of the time all folks mention are the percieved bad experiences.

 

+1 on said above. and first my experiances with AAM are all good-to-go as well. maybe some don't feel that way, all opinion and how they'v eexprianced stuff. go to the shop you like. I like AAM, and will use them in the future for sure as well. in my industry (firearms) that same stuff goes down. someone stuff is garbage, and others is the top of line. if you don't like, don't go and bash on them saying his stuff is going to blow apart because of the shop he used... he seams to know what he's doing, but agreed and undertood, pushing those numbers stock block are risky. and yeah, you pay to play for sure. machines buit up like that need and require that.

 

good numbers for stock block! why not do it right the first time though?.. a nice built short block shouldn't go for more than 3000...

 

That is my next upgrade! I am about to put the car away for the winter time! But I plan to find a nice low mileage Revup to buy then down the road and have AAM build it up! But I am trying to pay off the car and other life's bills. I want to thank all who have given thier opinion and been nice about it! To many mean people on here! I ordered this car 2 yrs ago with the intent on personalizing it to my taste! I am a gearhead by heart so performance is a deffinite! I love this website for the true enthusiast that understand all of us start somehow, we arent born with a z and know everything! We learn from our own mistakes and the honest mistakes of others! I think the biggest problem people arent understanding that people are starting to buy Z's and G's because the price is coming down but they have 40,50,60,70k miles on them and they werent taken care of and more than likely were beat on and put away wet. Then someone buys these (for the better words basket cases) and want to go F/I! Come on guy's and girls! Deep down you know it wont take it! I just rolled over 6800 miles on my car on the way back from AAM yesterday and they are babied miles! I have had this car since Jan 13th of 06! You must be one of the bashers I was referring to! Trust me, they did not give me anything off! Where did you have your install? Have you personally had a bad exsperience with AAM or are just trying to make the shop that did your work look better by putting down AAM? I noticed you live in MD! So I would assume they would be competitors for business! I cannot speak for any other shop because for these types of cars I chose AAM because they specialize in G' and Z's! I am sure that there are other similar shops out there but I was hooked when I went down for a show they had in April or June and I was given a tour of the facility and got to talk not only the owner but the tech who would eventually work on my car but also several other customers!!!! I was surprised on the amount of cars they had to work on! They had cars from as far away as Florida and Canada then. And just yesterday I saw they had cars there from Nebraska and Illinois! Obviously people know they do good work or they wouldnt spend several hundred dollars to transport thier cars halfway accross the country to have it worked on there! Please let me know in detail how/or why AAM did you wrong as a customer?????? I am not trying to be dumb I spend my hard earned money for these upgrades and for them to be installed!!!! The problem is that it is easier to write a letter when your upset then happy. When you are happy people think that when they are happen that it should always be this way, but in reality most business don't strive to make you a happy customer it just happens. Big ups to AAM for customer service

I dont post on heresay, I post regarding my experiences. In 5+ years of modding and racing my Z, I have many. Since you asked...

I was "working with" AAM at one point, when Dave Shiroma had the shop running well. He left, $hit went back to normal.

What I went threw isnt your business, but to prove you wrong and again since you asked I'll name a few things I dealt with.

*Changing quotes at the last minute
Stupid shop and material fees that I havent seen any other shop invoice me for for simple jobs requiring nothing other than hand tools.
*Bad tuning-although Mike was always helpful on the phone when I Was on the side of the road with a knocking car!
*No temp comp set up on UTEC
*I was lied to in writing and face to face by your buddy Mike M. regarding the injectors in my car. I has suspicions when I saw the inj duty cylce, and at that point was BS'd to while sitting in my car during the tuning session. I confirmed it when my motor blew 3000 miles later and I pulled the kit, and injectors off they were diff brand/size than those I wanted.
*I asked for a very specific build list quote, and had the entire quote/parts list changed by Mike.

I can go into wayyyyyyy more detail but you should get my point. LOL @ the out of towners, poor b@stards dont know what they have coming, AAM is prolly a big hit in Canada where people see an impressive website and truly believe they specialize in anything other than failure. Now please, save yourself the grief. and stop preaching to the choir, we already know how your situation will end, your just to hard headed to realize it now.
