this is how i did it! got a education and suffered through my younger years, decided to never get married and not have kid's, advance my career and make lot's of money, purchase things in cash, live below my means " example " even though i could have bought a 500k home i bought a 250k house instead, even though i could have bought a bmw or mercedes for a daily driver " NEVER WOULD", i bought a nissan titan SE 2WD truck. i will tell you the way i live my life with the choices i have made half of my income is disposable! unfortunately most americans do not think this way! they live life from pay check to pay check trying to support a lifestyle they really cannot live. that is partly the reason the country is in the financial bind it is in right now. AMERICANS ARE CREDIT CRAZY!!!!and purchase things they cannot afford.

for the comment savings account yeah i have one, anyway thanks for the input guys, heres the deal i have 10k in my savings that is mainly for purchasing a house and getting out of my apartment. So i do have the money i have called around and got a great price i believe of 7k to purchase and install and tune out the door vortech supercharger kit. I just can't bring myself to do it right now, its killing me but like i said i just have other priorities ahead of doing it. I have paid student loans off and just have normal living expenses. I would do the personal loan and add a payment on but that would be spending more and not saving more when i could be if you know what i mean. But it would get it done. how much you think a personal loan payment would be for say 9k?

basically i can save money and save money and take time or take a loan and get it now and pay the payment. come on someone on has taken a loan to get some boost, was it worth it? I really can afford the extra payment just takes away totally from saving money.

OK, serious answer to what sounds like a serious question.

The problem, as I'm sure you have already figured out, is that spending money to mod a car the same as spending money on a vacation or an expensive wedding; it is fun while it lasts, but when it is over all you have is memories and an empty bank account. The money you are saving for a house is different. As long as you are wise, buying a house, or investing in the stock market, or putting money into your IRA or 401k, will reap lasting rewards.

The problem with borrowing money, or using non-disposable income for a car or car mods is that you significantly reduce your ability to carry future debt or weather a financial crisis. Particularly now, even if you have the down payment for a house, if you are already carrying too much debt, credit card or personal loan, then a bank will not lend you the money at decent rates. If you are pushed the limit with payments, what happens when the inevitable happens such as you get sick, lose a job, car breaks down, you have to fix a roof, etc.... All that stuff does happen and unless you have the appropriate financial cushion, you're screwed.

So the serious answer is that until you have that down payment saved, until you have purchased that house, until you have 6 months living expenses saved up, until your IRA or 401k are fully funded, you shouldn't even be thinking about spending money going FI on a Z.

Not what you wanted to hear I know and I sure you'll probably discount it as the ramblings of an old fart (I am an old fart) but never-the-less it is the truth.

+1. obviously you do not have a lot of cash flow so what are you going to do when you do blow your motor? this is probably your only car right? so how do you plan on getting to work to repay the 10k its going to cost you to replace the engine if your engine gets f*cked?

do not make stupid investments in things you cant afford. and for sh*ts sake, dont take out a loan on a supercharger... that is the dumbest thing you could ever possibly do. the Z is a very able car with or without f/i.

I am going to just keep saving throughout the winter and after winter try to pick up a used charger for a decent price, they seem to go for around 3500 complete kit used, and put it on and get a utec and have it tuned, it will cut down on the costs, i can install it myself with no doubts so that will save me and finding a used one will cut down on costs also, ill prolly even get a used utec, there are some pretty good deals that go through on this site. If anyone has or will have a vortech or procharger full kit for sale let me know and i will take a look. The comments on financial cash flow and etc. are not on topic, this is just to see how others did it basically and i do not want to put myself in a hole if something were to go wrong and like i said have other things to be looking at also. Im not some stupid kid by any means and have a pretty good cash flow going. just looking for answers from people who have done it or who care to give simple and accurate advice.

shoot man, you can sell one of your kidneys for 500 bucks, then go to Las Vegas and try your luck, or you can sell your Z and get the supercharger or turbo first, then when you can afford a Z again in the future, you'll already have the parts to mod it.. damn, I'm a genius!

Old saying if you have to ask you can't afford it.

If I read right, earlier posts sounds like you're thinking about taking out a loan for FI? LOL Would love to be at the bank listening to how that conversation goes with the branch manager.

Anyway...

Figure you'll need at least 8 grand or so, with install and another 10+ grand laying around on top of the 8 grand when the engine blows up. You''l need a backup car unless you wanna pay for rentals, take cabs or bum rides.

Trying to keep up with the Jones' may come back to bite you in the *** someday, like when you want that house but the bankruptcy on your credit report over the FI loan that went South pops up.

Years ago I fell into the keeping up with the Jones' thing and it ain't worth it dude. Now there are a lot of out of work people stuck with Hummers, escalades, etc. they can't put gas in or even sell, while others are getting repo'ed because they had to be baller. Homeless in a Hummer woo hoo.

Make it as fast as you want there will always be a faster car, with more carbon fiber, driven by somebody that has more money than you

I work a day job and I am a musician. So I play every gig that comes my way to make extra money. Gig money=mod money. I also quit eating out for every meal. Saves mucho dinero.

like i just said, procharger on the way, i have a 5,000.00 wheeler that was paid cash so i have no payments or loan on it, and i am trading it for procharger kit and extras from a member on here. As long as everything goes through. He is in the process of moving, so after that it is supposed to be on.
I didn't wanna bring it up but the whole not being able to afford thing and if you have to ask you can't afford, no... i have a structured settlement that i get money from, every three years since i was 18. I don't brag about it or use it on stupid things normally. When i was 18 my first payment was 30,000.00 and now every three years continue to get more and the payments go up, I work six days a week at a mojor resort in my area and do fine for myself and try to put the annuity payments in the bank and use sparingly. Well i decided on my last payment when i turned 21 and got 40,000.00 i was in a stable position and i wanted a few things. I got my 03 z, a 06 gsxr-750 and a 06 yfz-450 quad, all three used. i have the rest from the last payment saved in the bank toward a house, i get another payment when i turn 24. I just wanna be as smart with my money as possible, but still have fun and live life. and have things i like, i think i deserve it. now i would rather save the money in the bank toward life long things like a house, but will have it if something went wrong. i also have a 99 grand am se 4 door sedan, (pretty mean). lol so i do have another car to that comment also. but anyway problem has been solved, decided to let the wheeler go for now and compromised. and i am not looking to build a racecar right now, been there and the z just needs a little more thats all.
