Question Do I need the VLSD? (limited slip diff)

Hey everyone.

I'm getting a new car soon and I've already decided on a '07/'08 350z 6MT, but I don't know if I should go with the base model or the enthusiast.

I want to get the base model because it's cheaper, but I'm concerned by the fact that it doesn't come with a limited slip differential (VLSD). Is that even necessary?

What are the benefits of having the vlsd?
How will it affect manouvers such as drifting, donuts, 180's, etc.?

I drive fast and hard sometimes... and I plan on drifting and doing donuts sometimes.

please help

Sounds like you plan on crashing your car as well.

I recommend you get a honda accord/civic and not ruin a Z. Thanks.

First, search, there are many threads about this already. If your going to track or drift the car the stock vlsd isn't that great. You can save thousands with the different trim and just pop in a clutch type LSD if thats all you are comparing the Z's by. A lsd is not necessary, but it helps. Inner-wheel burnouts suck around turns. IMO, if you have a sports car you should have a LSD. Check this out to learn how they work: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/differential.htm

Once you hit the NITRO switch LSD will not matter.

please don't worry about me and/or how I drive...

i only do these types of manouvers in empty parking lots or safe areas so chill out.

so anyways, let me know what you guys recommend. Getting the base model and installing an aftermarket clutch-type lsd sounds good.. what do you think?

base model plus aftermarket LSD is a very nice choice. The aftermarket clutch type are nicer than stock VLSDs.

Up to you, but don't mess up a nice Z.

Its cool. Compare the amenities and price difference between the Enthusiast and Base. Decide if it is worth it for you.

BTW good luck finding a Base.

Wow!! you guys are a little harsh around here. Mabe he doesn't know much about cars!

Anyway without limited slip you will have a one wheel wonder. It is a lot harder to do donuts when only one wheel spins!!

And I only had my car 4 days before I put it sideways I guess I am still a child myself.
Even if I am 29 and own my own business.
