Well, do you check how much gas you use vs how many miles you drove. Maybe you have a faulty sensor reading.

I have already confirmed the guage is reading accurately. I reset the guage on my last fill up. As well as the speedo guage. I filled up approx. 11.8 gallons of fuel after driving 140miles. That number coincided with the number on the mpg guage.

Thanks for the conversion. Half way through you post I was getting pissed off because I didn't know what you were talking about damn rest of the world using a standardized system! Haha!

What are you trips like? Short and cold? City driving? I really cannot imagine anyone averaging less than 15-17mpg freeway even if you're getting on it occasionally.

Also, where are you shifting at? Keep in mind about shifting at low RPMs... it might be boring but it could mean the difference between a few mpg.

I was gonna say the same damn thing! I thought I was doing bad at and around 17-19mpg.

For the record... this makes the most sense to me about getting poor gas mileage in the winter. I don't know if it's 100% true but it definitely makes alot of sense. Keep this in mind with short trips back and forth.

Engines need to run rich when it is cold so that it will start quickly and not stall. Anything with a carburetor will have a choke to do this (lawnmowers, boats, motorcycles, weedeaters and virtually every car made between 1900 and 1990). Modern cars do it electronically. Everybodys Z gets crappy mileage until it gets to operating temperature.

So someone that drives only 2 miles per trip will surely get crappy mileage.

Try this. Watch your temp gauge. How much of your 2 mile trip is at normal operating temp? The answer doesn't matter, but just be aware of how much of your driving is done with the engine cold.

Also do this. Go out driving for a few miles. After you get up to normal operating temp, reset your trip computer and drive a couple of miles while warmed up to see how the mpg calculates.

Dude if your commute is 2 miles, if I were I'd invest in a bike.

I shift right around 3k rpm. Mostly city driving, but like I said, I get on a small highway for a short distance, basically 2 lights. No can do on the bike, I want to live past my next birthday (It's not my driving I'm worried about). I've had the same fuel economy since warm weather by the way.

The picture indicates an average speed of 12mph. So in addition to your short trips, you never get into the economical range of the car.

This is just an observation of my readings on my car.
I usually get between 20-21mpg on the dash pod. That is 100% city driving with 100% throttle reasonably often. My average speed almost always sits right on 24mph. ... I have noticed that when my average speed is below 20mph my mpg rating is usually around 17mpg.

So just a wild *** guess ... If you can make a trip with an average speed over 20mph, I bet you'll get at least 17mpg. If you can make a trip with an average speed over 40mph, I bet you'll get at least 22mpg.

I still think you need to go driving. Get the car warmed up, reset the trip computer, then drive for a bit. Just 3 or 4 miles should get you a relatively accurate reading. ... and compare it to your average speed too!

That explains it. My car does about the same street driving about 11-12 mpg. My advice, shift at lower rpms. There is a section in the user manual that mentions when to shift to maximize fuel economy when driving in the streets. From what i remember you can drive 38 mph on 6th. Just don't drive like this on an incline.

If I didn't love the car so much, I would have already sold it. I coulda had an evolution or lotus, this just car was just priced too good.

Between the evo and the lotus, I'd get the lotus hands down for performance and rarity. The evos don't look bad, but it looks more like a tuned family car.

ya, however the lotus was a good 7 grand more over the evo and 10 over the 350z.
