High/Freeway downshift question...
I agree, 4th sounds like the good safe gear at that speed, unless you have experience and confidence that you won't do any damage to you Z. After all who's going to fix it. Trying yourself a little testing with the higher gear shift and work yourself down gradually till you feel safe with your Z. Have fun.

Why would it hurt the internals? That speed isn't even close to redline in 3rd. In the HR, 3rd goes to just above 100 mph. A DE must be around there too.
...wait I just checked... nope... my engine is not blown...
70mph in 3rd gear will not take you above red line in any year Z... considering you shift to 3rd @ 60mph in a DE when running through the gears... 70mph is definitely not too deep for 3rd especially in an HR...
i say get on the free way casualy down shift every gear untill you find the gear closest to red. Just because your rpms are high doesnt mean you have to be gunning it.
Never practice when its game time or your asking to fail.

Damn my engine must be blown because I've done that many times!!!

Yeah, I heard if you're in 70 in 6th gear and shift to 3rd, your engine blow up. No lie.
Some people just are ignorant. Where do people get this info from?
I usually like to drop it at 4th so i don't have to shift and got plenty of room for TQ in the mid range. 3rd gear drop is fine as the 20+ posts have said already.
Just make sure you rev-match your engine speed before you take your foot off the clutch after the gear selection.

you better be rev-matching if you're going to go 6 -> 3 at 70
I have done a few 2nd gear downshifts at 40mph. If you have some mods that help out your high-end power, then it is super-fun. I am too used to driving a honda at 7k lol.

65-82mph in 6th downshift to 4th...
If you downshift to 3rd the car gets agravated <---wrong spelling, but it should be fine if you rev up to the rpms for that gear...
