I finally got my finances in order and I'm ready to buy a 04 Z coupe. So, having read on this forum about all the trouble people have had trying to get a test drive I decided to call ahead to one of the major dealers here, Nissan of Fife. Here's how the conversation went.

Me: Hi, I'm interested in the 350Z and wanted to take a test drive this weekend.
Dealer: Sure, we have a track convertible on the lot.
Me: You don't have any coupes?
Dealer: No.
Me: Do you know when you'll be getting more coupes in?
Dealer: Well, we have about 7 here.
<He just said they didn't have any>
Me: That I can test drive?
Dealer: No, they are sold. We don't allow test drives because people don't want a lot of miles on them.
Me: So I can only test drive the convertible?
Dealer: No, we don't give test drives.
Me: Ok, bye.

WTF? He tells me I can take the convertible for a test drive hoping I'll come down there and then he'll try and sell it to me without giving me a test drive? Man, I hate car dealers. They are complete scum!

If they don't even let you test drive, forget about giving them your business. Call another dealer. I'm sure there are plenty of other Nissan dealers in your area that will let you test drive a car that you most likely will buy.

Check carsdirect.com at the least so you know what you can negotiate with...

Didn't he just say "sure" when you said you were interested in a test drive?

I always hate to hear that, but then again, I totally understand. Same reason I'm not doing well in sales. >_<

Ok, it was probably the touring then. I'm interested in an enthusiast coupe.

I don't remember his exact wording but when I asked if I could come in for a test drive, he definately implied I could come down and test drive the covertible they had on the lot.

I wouldn't have a problem with dealers if they didn't lie and treat everyone like they're an uninformed idiot. I know there are a lot of ignorant people out there and salesmen probably take advantage of them when they can but when you assume everyone is stupid and going to fall for any BS you feed them, you've lost all respect from me.

Hey, turtles, I test drove the enthusiast at Performance Nissan in Everret in June. Let me know if you want to go there I can call up a guy who was trying to sell it to me. I test drove the Z and they didn't even ask for my license. Of course, when they started working on me after a test drive I just told them that I still have to figure out my financing but if you got everything ready I am sure they will let you test drive it, at least it won't hurt to ask. Let me know.
