Question Etching?

I purchased my Z a week ago and noticed a few things. my windows are etched. Is this standard? I also see what seems to look like tree sap marks or acid rain marks on the spoiler(can only see in the right position) also a few of the same in different spots throughout the car. My glass on the inside headlights alo have finger marks or something I can't remove without getting inside them, is this possible. This car had 22 miles on it when I bought it, there no way they turned the speedo is there?

Etching is a popular (and worthless) dealer add-on. Hopefully you didn't pay anything for it. Most of the major parts of the Z have the VIN number on them, so the etching isn't worth anything.

Take your car back and make the dealer make it right to your satisfaction and no, they wouldn't have messed with the odometer. A dealer has too much to lose if they ever got caught.

The windows on my ferrari are etched, the same with my NSX. I dont know if they kept any people away, but I figured I would have it done with my 350z.

The dealer charged me $725.00, and they pay $1,000.00 towards my insurance if my car is stolen.

I'm not advocating having the dealer do it or anything (since it sounds like it'd be expensive to go through them), but I was watching a documentary on car theft called Stolen Every 23 Seconds. I recall (I might be slightly off on this) that they said the purpose of etching all the windows is to sorta discourage thieves from stealing the car and then selling it.

They mentioned that the thief would have to get all the windows changed in order to get rid of the etched VIN, which would be expensive and not worth the trouble for them.

Etching can lower your insurance. I use GEICO in nyc, and you get something like 5% discount.

Also, you don't have to pay your dealer for it. Check with you local precincts. Sometimes, they do it for free.

Wow..That's expensive. The dealer tried to get me for $300 for the service. I told them forget it, and they lowered it to $150. I'm still not conviced it's even worth that.
