Question to help my final decision
So here is the deal, I have driven manual transmission cars my entire life, and the seatle stop and go traffic is finally getting to me so im thinking that I will be going for an auto with my Z.
My questions are; does anyone know the horspower diff. between the stick and the auto, also the 1/4 mile time. Also planing on installing an ATI procharger anyone have 1/4 mile time with one installed, does your warranty go void upon installation?
any info will help me in my final decision on wether I stay with a stick, or switch over to an auto!
Thanks
Boris

IINM the hp difference (at CRANK) is none. to the wheels it's app. 5% less HP than the manual. I personally bought the Z for the manual, sports cars need them, BUT I can sympathize with your problem with traffic.
Our traffic here compare to LA or NY is nothing. Trust me I thought I was sick of manual tranny untill I bought auto for my previous car. It's just borring besides that you have more control in the Seattle rain in manual.
I live in Los Angeles and the traffic here has gotta be just as bad as you described. But mark my words, you dont wanna get an automatic transmission for a Z. You're gonna regret it later on and then you'll be stuck with a car you dont like. If it were an Altima or a Maxima or something like that, by all means get the automatic, but with the Z you're gonna want the manual transmission. I have a friend who bought an automatic and he totally regretted that decision and finally traded in the car for an identical car with stick shift. Just my 2 cents and hope that helps.
Liek everyone said, get the auto and you may well regret it. But, the Z has such a broad powerband that even in traffic you don't need to do that much shifting.. In real slow stuff I can pretty much leave it in second unless I have to come to a complete stop.
My brother has driven my Z and then drove a Z with auto tranny. He said the auto still had good power and said he really like it.
For me, I feel a sports car should be a stick but I strongly suggest you either get a test drive comparing the two at a dealer or if that is not possible, attend a local Z club event and drive them both.
